So Ive got a new commission. First one in a LONG time actually. A portrait of some guy, this guy, lol..

It will be realistic, and done in watercolor. a collaboration with my husband. He will do the drawing and I will be painting. We've done this bunches of times before, but its been quite some time since we have done one.

but Im happy I get to paint again for a change.

Just thought I would share

Update I started it. husband got the drawing and I started the guy, and a touch of the landscape. My husband will paint that tractor thing I think.. not sure yet. anyway here are some update pics..

close-up of the face.. well just remember its meant to be viewed from afar..

update 2 the figure is done.. yay. next Ill work on the sky and landscape

these pics arent that great.. oh well. just imagine them a little more contrasty.

update 3 My part is done. put in the landscape and sky, now hubby has to do the tractor thing. all in all Im happy with how it is so far. Now I just have to close my eyes and forget about it till my husband is finished. When he is, I will post a pic of the finished piece.

update 4 So my husband got another commission, so it was decided that I would just finish this myself, so he could do the other one. here is an update of where I stopped last night.

done finally

I hardly ever get traditional commission work. I think my last painting (traditional) was a year ago.

Wow, that's coming along really well.

Your painting skillz are superior to my own!

very nice!!! there's a lot of shadow in his face in the photo, i was wondering how that would progress? are you going in darker with it? it looks great now! that's nice you and your husband can collaborate on it:)
DaniellesGarden
   DaniellesGarden on Jun 06 '08 at 10:20am
thanks malcolm. nah, not superior.. different. I love your style!

heyhey, no im not going any darker, i decided that before even starting, that i wasnt going to go anywhere near as dark as in the picture.

yeah, Im a little nervous, only because we really have different styles. Hes an awesome artist but he tends to use watercolor as if it were acrylic, and then wants to add gouache to it for lights which is a big no no by my book. so its going to be tough to hand this over, when we do collabs together usually its just for ourselves, for fun, this is the first one we are doing for a commission.
so we will just see. he already did the drawing though, so it would still be a collab even if i painted that tractor right? lol..

heyheyitsme on Jun 06 '08 at 10:22am
why are you doing the collab on the painting if your styles are so different? that would make me nervous on a commissioned piece:)

FYI, I think it will be a while before I update this again, he's sort of a procrastinator, and this isnt actually "due" until august..

Cool. I'm very impressed.

When I'm old and wrinkly, I'll commission you to do a portrait of myself.

Only, I want to be standing on top of a dragon's head With like...a sword and a naked lady.

Danielle, I have no idea why you are not subbing using water colors.
DaniellesGarden
   DaniellesGarden on Jun 09 '08 at 11:14pm
Malcolm, probably because I paint portraits of old people and babies. I could try something though I guess.

oh check my guess the score blog there is a message for you there. or will be soon.

You obviously know how to use water colours, so even though you will use them on a different subject when you do a design for a shirt it will work out,
I would say, give it a try.

That baby painting is amazing.
How big is it?
DaniellesGarden
   DaniellesGarden on Jun 19 '08 at 11:52am
Im trying to remember, I think the baby was 14 x 20 might have been 18 x 24 though.

I think if I were to do a watercolor sub, I would have to use a different paper than normal. maybe clayboard or just a less rough paper. so that the texture of the paper doesnt show too much, maybe a few subs down the road i will try.
