I think a soft watercolor look would be fantastic. Or a monotone with the flower being a splash of color approach.

Nice. Were it me, I'd probably have the kids colorful, the grass and sky bright and make the center panel neutral and fairly dark so the flower jump out with bright color -- it is the focus afterall....

I'm inclined to think a dark shirt could work very well... then the bright colors won't be washed out on a light shirt.
