So I'm working on this, and I'm thinking of coloring it with watercolors and going for simulated process, but I'm wondering what's the best way to transfer the framework of the lines onto watercolor paper.

Anyone know a good way to do this?

I think probably magic.

could you lend me your magics, then?

I just came back here to say that, because I couldn't believe I missed it.

Thanks for not being as slow on the uptake as I am.

Well maybe, if you have enough magics to transfer my drawing, you could muster up the magics to transfer your magics?

I hope this helps.

It looks like they used separate sheets and joined them in photoshop.

But mike, see how you can see the really light pencil lines on the water color image? THAT is what I'm trying to figure out how to get perfect.

If the answer is that he's just super good at copying an image, then maybe I'm out of luck. But I'm hoping there's some way of getting a framework onto the watercolor paper that's more noob friendly.

Tracing maybe?

I have a light-box, and I tape the drawing and the new paper together so they don't move around. If you don't have a light-box, you could try a make-shift one, just find a hard, clear surface and stick a light source under it.

I don't know how he does it though. It might possibly be magic.

Problem is it's watercolor paper :(

Maybe ask him how he does it.

He's kind of a God at watercolors.

I'm a noob too.

I might do that.

I might also just put it to bed since it's not getting a whole lot of love... or hate, even. I'm a bit discouraged.

I've heard about people who PRINT the image onto watercolour paper with a very light colour. Then, secure the paper on a board with watercolour tape to prevent wobbliness.

I used light yellow transfer paper from the art store to gently indicate the shape.

You can project the image onto a wall and retrace it on watercolor paper. Most art stores or colleges have projectors you can rent. Or buy one, they come fairly reasonably priced. The great thing about projectors is you can sketch tiny, and then blow it up and retrace big.

I would just piece them together in photoshop... but, if you're desperate for an outline, you can always do this!

Scribbling with a pencil is always the answer to everything :D

Yeah, Golden, I was going to do that, but I think transfer paper sounds like the easiest idea. I don't have the moneys for a projector, though that does sound great.

Thanks for the info, everyone!

even just tracing paper will work. if you just trace over it, then turn the tracing paper over and trace it again, the first lines will transfer to the paper really lightly, just backwards. if you don't mind about the orientation, that's fine, and if you do, then just do it twice.

graphite transfer paper - or even print it out and color the reverse side with graphite, as you trace the lines on the front against the watercolor paper it will transfer
