Okay so I'm not going until next year but I seriously have NOOOO idea what my plan is, or even if I can get in. I don't really have anything to compare it to. I got a composite score of 27 on my ACT, and I haven't taken the SAT. I want to travel and save money at the same time, so I was thinking of going totally awkward to out-of-state community college.Yes? No? I need advice.

I personally don't think state schools that are out of state are very worth it since you pay so much more, maybe for a 4 year school since you should have at lest 3 solid years of residency after paying through the nose your first year. A community college could be ok if you plan to go on to a 4 year afterwards in the same state but otherwise I would say don't bother specially if your goal is to save money. Don't know what state your in but maybe you can just go to the other side of your state:-)

haha i'm in california. i dunno, i just want to get out and see somewhere new. that's what i was thinking of doing, going to a community college in a new state and then transferring to somewhere there, so i might get residency benefits...

There's always tech school as well. I went to technical college for an associates degree in Graphic Design. I'm kinda lucky though having gone to one that has one of the most advanced graphics facility in the country, so that helped persuade me a lot. But besides that, I dont know what you're going for, but if you can, tech school is a great option. I scored a 27 on my ACT as well and didnt do the SAT. (wierd huh?) Plus, tuition is like half the price of regular college, and you don't have to bullshit around with mandatory classes that have nothing to do with your degree (except for like 3 or 4 prereqs), and I finished in 3 years and already have a job as a full tme designer at a printnig company. Plus, if you do end up deciding to go to a university, most have a program that transfers your credits once you've completed (which normally only takes 2 years, I took extra classes). In my opinion, tech schools totally the way to go.

Well, that could be a plan then, just make sure you pick your community college with a university in mind. Otherwise you could always go to a school in another city in Cali then travel on your breaks with all the money you save. Really, I would just look at the cost of out of state tuition, that might make your choice easier. Seems to me it was 5-6 times more expensive.

what kind of travelling do you want to do? most colleges offer some sort of study abroad program, including community college. that way you kill 2 birds with one stone - travel and education. where in cali do you live (i live in LA but i lived in norcal for 8 years)

Yeah, technical colleges are good. I did 2 years at tech, then two years at community college then 2 years at a state university for my BA. Maybe not the best path if I had to pick it from the start but it worked out well.
