OK I've been living in apartments for a long while now and my fiance and I just moved into a house were renting now. Its a nice little house down near the river. I'm really excited to be there.

Yet even though I love having a fenced in yard now for our little dog, the yard has a lot of flowers and plants which attract spiders, tics, fleas, ants, and other insects I don't want. Does anyone know what will work well to get rid of them with out harming the plants and pets?

you cant really do much. just bathe your dog more often and keep the grass and flowers/bushes trimmed.

marigolds!

some insects you cant help but planting marigolds takes care of a lot of bugs, also just embrace nature you have a backyard now and the bugs are not as bad as they seems I have lime, orange, and lemon trees in my back yard along with some shrubs and we get spiders but its not annoying and they dont come into the house because we get it sprayed by Clark

Use Frontline. It's amazing - prevent syour dog from getting fleas, ticks, and lice.

Those are the bugs to worry about - other than that, your dog should be fine. So enjoy the plants!

Thanks Ladykat, the dog was on frontline for a while but for some reason my fiance took her off and put her on something else. I think I'm just going to tell her we should put her back on it.

i use advantage on my dog. works like a charm! my dog was on frontline for awhile, and all of a sudden it stopped working. dunno why.

also, if you have too many bugs and things on your plants, insecticidal soap can work wonders. it's non-toxic, so you don't have to worry about it harming your dog. you can pick it up at any gardening store.
