I always see blogs about best movies ever, but what is the worst movie you have ever seen?

Mine is: Pink Flamingos (1972)

Finally watched Groundhog Day for the first time the other day and I have to say, it wasn't half bad. Not favorite movie material, but decent.

Strangely enough, the thing with two heads, which is sort of a sequal to The incredible two headed transplant is one of my favourites.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band starring Peter Frampton and the Bee Gee's. Hideous. Steve Martin sings in it. Actually, everyone in it sings and completely butchers a good portion of the Beatles catalog.

Gummo

Southland Tales
Papaprime

Southland tales is at least entertainingly bad. Your jaw is agape at the horrible direction, story and acting almost the entire movie.

hang on - are we saying

Most Hated Films

or

Worst Made Films?

Because I don't see how anyone could say that Mulholland Drive is badly made. Yes, you might not like it, but it couldn't be considered one of the worst made...

Same for Reservoir Dogs - I could see why people wouldn't like it, but on technical / acting grounds alone, it's fucking awesome.

Problem Child

Breakfast at Tiffany's (because I couldn't make it past Mickey Rooney's character, and turned off the TV in disgust, even though I adored Audrey Hepburn)

mezo just hates Groundhog Day cos it has Bill Murray in it. I like it, but any film with Andy McDull in it loses SERIOUS points from me.

how about The Blair Witch Project?

And some of that shoot-ask-regret type movies.
mezo
   mezo on Aug 29 '08 at 11:32am
That is only 1 point, yes, 13, but Groundhog Day also sucks since it's the SAME SCENES WITH ONLY MINOR CHANGES REPEATING OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

...I liked Gummo. In all of it's dirty redneck glory.

I really don't know how to answer this, and I know that people will really not like my answers, should I answer.

Here goes nothing (note: this is not definitive, just what springs to mind)

Films I hate the most? Possibly:

Empire Records

Dirty Dancing

As Good As It Gets

Congo

Oh, there are probably so many more.

Groundhog Day also sucks since it's the SAME SCENES WITH ONLY MINOR CHANGES REPEATING OVER AND OVER AND OVER.

You do realise that's the premise, and the source of the entertainment, of the whole film? It's a film ABOUT a man who repeats the same day over and over.

It's like saying you Jurassic Park sucks because ALL THE SCENES HAVE DINOSAURS IN THEM!

Hey, Congo is a masterpiece!

Well, not really, but it has a lot of gorillas, Homer Simpson would approve.
mezo
   mezo on Aug 29 '08 at 11:37am
And that concept for a movie, alone, 13, is terrible in itself. Watching the same thing over and over is unentertaining. For the record, I went into that movie not knowing anything about it. Same with Lost in Translation....which also ate 12 dicks.

But THIS, however, is most entertaining:

a lot of peoples worst are some I really enjoyed.

I'd say Crash was pretty bland & over appreciated.

Teeth was boring, the Host was overhyped and not what I was expecting.
13strong
13strong on Aug 29 '08 at 11:38am
It's hard to think of the ACTUAL worst films (I don't tend to see a lot of bad films...), and not just list the really mediocre mainstream ones.

I guess the thing is that I don't mind REALLY shitty, poorly made films, because there's a lot of enjoyment to be derived from their shitness. But films that REALLY SHOULD BE BETTER actually annoy me more.

So, Kevin Smith makes Clerks and Chasing Amy, both of which are good and good fun, and then he makes

DOGMA

which is a pile of shit.

How can you not like Pink Flamingos? It is so abysmally bad, that it falls through a dimensional gateway on its way downwards and re-emerges in a constellation of...five stars.
Cichan
Cichan on Aug 29 '08 at 11:40am
you can say everything about Dirty Dancing, except bad.
13strong
13strong on Aug 29 '08 at 11:42am
Lost in Translation was pretty shit, yeah.

I like the concept of Groundhog Day, though, because it's the kind of thing that indulges my "What if I could do that?" brain fun. I think there's a certain amount of satisfaction watching a guy living in a world where his actions have ABSOLUTELY no consequence. That said, Andy McDull is a pretty poor prize, given the hell that he goes through.

And Dirty Dancing? CREEPY CREEPY STUPID CREEPY FILM.
marblecargirl
marblecargirl on Aug 29 '08 at 11:42am
hahaha, oh man, Gummo is NOT something you should watch while stoned. It's weird/creepy enough as it is.
13strong
13strong on Aug 29 '08 at 11:42am
danrule - you mean David Cronenberg CRASH or race-relations CRASH?

I haven't seen the latter, but the David Cronenberg one is one of the most over-rated films ever, surely.

I was referring to the 'best picture' one.

The Cronenberg one had it's flaws, but I thought it was decent when I saw it. I don't remember how hyped it was back then though.

13strong

mezo - it's SO BORING! A film about sex and car crashes should be disturbing and sexy and THRILLING. It should make you get inadvertent boners and make you sweat and squeal with fear and excitement.

It should not make you bored and slightly queasy as you watch James Spader mope around like a horny weirdo (admittedly, that's what he does in all the films he's in, but that's usually entertaining).
