having TROUBLE file sizing in photoshop. PLEASE HELP!
is there a trick to getting the specifics of threadless file size submission? if it's 640 pixels, then the file size is over 250k. if it is under 250k, then the pixel width isn't perfectly 640. the image is flat, it is in 8 bit, it has been saved as a crappy gif, the worst jpeg, etc... nothing seems to get it to fit. even the template i downloaded is too big! help me!

either that or when you save it as a jpeg, adjust the quality slider until the file is under 250k

yeah, also check that the resolution isnt at like 500, that could affect file size. also it just has to be under 640, it doesnt have to be exactly 640.



The template is saved as either a .psd or .ai depending on what program you used so if you saved it as either of those the file size will be much too large.

the resolution is at 72, i have saved it for web, i saved it as a jpeg as well as a gif, and the critique submit will not allow it to pass unless it is exactly 640 pixels wide.

in the options for the crop tool, set the dimensions at 640 px x800 px, crop it, save it for web and then undo it and exit (don't save it at the cropped size, or the image will be permanently 640x800)

or in the save for web dialog, set the dimensions at 640 wide

Use Irfanview. You can easily adjust the file size while saving.
