So, I'm looking at buying a bike.. But I'm not sure if I should get a mountain bike or a road bike. I'll mostly be using it to excersize/ride on bike trails and the occasional bike trip with friends.

Anyone with more bike knowledge than me have any thoughts/help?

I have a hybrid that is a good travelling bike and is also capable on trails if I ever get that much energy again. I'll locate a pic.

I have also added 2 bottle cages and a cargo rack that attaches to the seat post. And I have a big cushy seat.

Are "comfort" bikes and hyrbids the same?

I should note that it's a Schwinn Skyliner. It was like $130, maybe $175 with the accessories.

I couldn't seem to find any larger pics on Google images, but it has a really nice color scheme, and everything on it is pretty rugged compared to other bikes I looked at in this price range.

Bigger pic from the WalMart website:

Although they have it listed now as $178, but I got mine 2 years ago. That still seems like a hefty price jump...

Ones I've been looking at:

And one I was eyeing one at the store yesterday.. It might have been a hybrid?

The Montego (the third one) looks like it would be comparable to mine in comfort/construction. I like the way it looks, too.

Yea, thats what I was thinking. I'm probably gunna go to the Dick's in the county above mine and check out their bike selection. I was at the one in my town and saw the one good bike, so I'm hoping they have a better selection.

I'm too impatient to wait for it in the mail, and I'd have to put it together, so I want to avoid that..

Thanks for the help too!

Prof, how many gears does your bike have? (I'm looking to upgrade.)

It has 21, but it usually just use the 7 in the middle range. I stick to the paved/gravel paths for now.

For a second I was, "Twenty One! Holy Cow!". Before I realized that I have 21 and that's exactly what I'm looking for.
...7 in the middle range... That would be 2 & 7 right? (If so, that's my preference as well.)
Thanks Prof. Much appreciated. (Of course, I'm up in Canadaland so buying one might be an issue.)
