I've been working on another design for the Geeks theme. I know ASCII has already been done, but I wanted to try this idea out anyway. It would be a one-color oversized/belt print. The image is public domain by my best research estimations. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated. (*Image would obviously need to be licensed for reproduction)
"GreenLight LLC and its affiliates exclusively represent publicity, trademark, and related rights of Albert Einstein on behalf of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. "Albert Einstein" and "Einstein" are trademarks and/or registered trademarks of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
i am aware that einstein is a brand... but to my understanding of licensing (which i'm familiar with), if the design were to be selected, threadless would purchase the rights for reproduction
Think that works very well as a shirt and now I understand the why the link for the belt printing template was discovered today.
I'd perhaps suggest a little more contrast (just a little) to make the image stand out on the presentation, but in actual printing, the subtlety is what makes this.
Yeah, because it was totally my intention to crush someone's dream of getting a Threadless print. You asked for feedback. It would be a gross disservice to you if I told you how clever the idea was to parallel the Einstein tongue with the smiley tongue and how neat the belt-printing looks on the tee, and let you sub it, and tingle with anticipation for approval when it's probably going to be rejected (like I said, you can still try).
But next time I'll just leave it to Threadless to do the crushing.
you were very thoughtful to go to all that trouble... it was more thorough than i was expecting and what actually made it funny (to me anyway) was that it was devoid of any "actual" criticism of the design itself (good/bad/etc)...
i'm not sure... i think elvis is a big challenge since they're a very active licensee... unless it falls under parody... this design is much closer to the image so i know it won't get "parody" protection... i had fun making it... i may not sub it after all
i think threadless has said in the past that it likes to stray from celebrity likenesses for the most part, though. i feel like other sites might be into this idea, though?
yeah... i kind of had the feeling threadless would shy from such a "celebrity" image.... i could revise it with a "parody-like" illustration... or see how it plays out elsewhere...
fun stuff here, just like many others have said, not sure if Threadless would print something they had to pay extra for unless it scored a 4.5 aka 3 keyboard moon score.
Your submission was declined because it contains copyrighted material. Pop-culture inspired designs sometimes have legal issues we would rather not flirt with. Unfortunately, this is the case with your artwork.
I do like that design though. While agree that it's just an overused photo that it doesn't interest me, your take on it is at least original and interesting.
Yikes, my headache and lack of sleep is causing me to misplace words and make no sense at an alarming rate.

I just watched a special on 60 minutes about a hollywood agent who represents dead people. Einstein was his number one guy. I am sure that's why you can't use him.
yeah... i totally understand... it just works better using that iconic image as reference.... someone else sticking their tongue out wouldn't be as poignant... oh well.. thanks for the support and feedback
