CRASH

My partner in crime decided to die today. I got to hang out with my buddies again last night (after months of busy-ness) and decided to shut down my beloved, return drunk last night, and now she decides to give up on me. What a perfect way to start the year. *tears*

:'(

It would only load to the Apple logo. It won't even boot to Safe Mode. I've tried taking out third-party memory, repairing it in Disk Utility, running fsck at single user mode etc etc... still sadness

I've read on the forums that VOLUME CHECK FAILED is a problem with the HD. Did I miss on anything before I reinstall and start on a clean slate? It's against my will since I have unbacked-up works last night but I still have tons that I have to start on and the most unfortunate option is the most inevitable one.

Worse indeed Malcolm.

It's slowly dawning on me the settings, updates, downloads, bookmarks etc. that I have to redo all over again. *loses mind*

I'm so confused what everyone does to their computers that destroys them so hardcore? Is it all the intense art programs running on it at all times, cause i've never had a computer just completely give up on me yet.

Until of course now since i typed it. But it doesn't count unless you say it out loud right?

Anywho, so sorry man and i hope you reincarnated the computer in your new one with back-up files.

I thought so too Evan. I mean I've been very careful with updates etc. and it hasn't behaved badly ever... then it just suddenly won't boot up anymore. It's a complete mystery.

I miss my bookmarks and other stuff.

dude, this shit happened to my wifes macbook about a month ago

basically it sounds like you hard drive is failing. is that a macbook? has your fully charged battery been losing juice in about 15min? how old is the computer?

but maybe I'm wrong, maybe you simply need to reinstall the OS. something I couldn't even do on hers.

Robsoul
   Robsoul on Jan 04 '09 at 1:39am
oh yeah, I had to buy a new HD and install that, basically upgraded froman 80 GB HD to a 160 HD on her 'ol macbook.

Luckily I was able to save all her music and files before it finally went "bye bye"
Robsoul
   Robsoul on Jan 04 '09 at 1:39am
cost me $80 for the HD but you can probably find a cheaper one.
roadkill3d
   roadkill3d on Jan 04 '09 at 1:40am
Rob it's a year old and it's an imac.

Kaloy, oo chong... tanginang buhay to. Madalas naman siya nakaon dati wala namang problema. Dati kahit overnight okay lang din.

And I'm very skeptic about the HD failing since I remember the last software that I ever put on before shutting down was xiv's System cooling fan software (or something like that). It either messed up the OS really bad since nothing of the steps I did seemed to be working, even booting up on Safefuckingmode.

San ka bumibili? Online?
kaloyster
   kaloyster on Jan 04 '09 at 2:12am
yep. ebay. nakamura pa ko kasi serial number lang naman ang kailangan so no need to ship the box :)

a disclaimer though, you can extend the warranty KUNG hindi pa tapos ang 90 day warranty ng item mo. pag nag purchase ka at lagpas na ang 90 days, olats na.

although ynzal can and will repair your bonnie regardless of its warranty ended up already.

generally the HD is failing any time a volume doesn't mount, although that is not always the case. years ago, I had a G3 tower and that died after 6 months, thus, from that point on I always purchased apple care.

my new imac is on the latest os and a new update is giving a lot of ppl the blue screen of death. I think I repaired it though per an article I read *knock on wood*, hold down the shift button on a restart and it renews the system cache or something along those lines.

Thanks for that Rob... I'm slowly learning how to do these things -maintenance and stuff and doing occasional system checks.

I never understood how important Time Machine is up until now. I have always formatted my external HD to FAT since I also have a Windows system where I use sometimes to import files from PC and ignored Time Machine. I have at least 7 unbacked-up illustrations :(
