Hi all, got to work with the amazing buko aka Enkel recently, and here's some of the process work of our first collab! :)

Beauty Before Death - Threadless T-shirts, Nude No More

01. Concept
I pitched a couple of ideas to Enkel, the one he particularly liked was the concept of a nature-like Medusa that was beautiful rather than hideous/monstrous like the legends say. Snakes with flowers, birds, vines, the whole shebang!
Here's my super crappy prelim sketch:

02. Sketch
Enkel's insane "intial sketch:"

* I really, really wanted a snake eating a bird. :)

03. Composition
I made some composition changes...

04. Lineart
Enkel makes the changes and inks up the final design...

05a. Coloring Sketches
Enkel & I's initial coloring ideas

05b. Coloring
Linework passed to me for coloring...! I painted in watercolor + gouache on paper, then scanned it in and worked on the design some more in photoshop:

Almost done...!

06. Finishing touches + Presentation
Enkel makes some finishing color adjustments!

It's been submitted! Thank you for all the title suggestions everyone, really helped me brainstorm...! Hope you guys all like the final result. We'll be posting close-ups and color options eventually as well.

did you apply watercolor to his original linework, or was it from a digital file? If it was original, how did he get it to you, through the mail?

@olie! - he sent a high-quality PSD over, I printed it out big and painted on top of it then scanned it back in :)

Last Sight or something similar is a very interesting idea to me, againstbound! Reminds me of The Ring in a weird way, hahaha - "before you die, you see the ring" etc

I think it's great but the octopus-like tentacles is throwing me off a bit. Not sure if snakes have those but I could be wrong. hehe

It's buko's idea, and I sort of like the randomness of it :)
