So I recently heard Tim Burton is doing a version of Alice in Wonderland!!! (It's coming out in like 2010 or something but, hey...)

As I see it,
Tim Burton + Alice in Wonderland= UNBELIEVABLE

Anybody with me?

yeah, but its Disney, so don't expect it to be completely unhinged. As expected, Johnny Depp will probably be in it, playing the Mad Hatter.

Part of me really wants to see it.

Part of me wants Tim Burton to stop doing remakes and try and do something original.

I think Johnny Depp would make a great Alice, actually.

it could be great... as long as it doesn't look as plastic-y as charlie and the chocolate factory... more like sleepy hollow or something

It has potential, but I am not a fan of anything Tim Burton does that isn't animated.

yeah me too, but if he's given enough room to move Alice could still be really cool. i didn't know disney were involved though. that'll probably ruin it.

But it is animated. But it's that motion capture crap from Beowulf etc rather than, say, Nightmare Before Christmas.

I didn't hear it was a disney movie, that kinda sucks some of the excitement out of it...

Really? I thought tim burton and alice in wonderland would end up in some sort of magical concoction.
ginetteginette

personally, when i see tim burton + remake it equals disaster...

but i'm just not a fan of his in general, though i did really love nightmare before christmas when i was little and his original works i think are pretty good (beetlejuice/edward scissorhands).

i'm still grumpy about his chocolate factory disaster.
Merzi
Merzi on Aug 03 '08 at 8:26pm
Oh, I didn't think he did such a bad job. I think it was different because that was geared towards a younger audience. But yeah, his original work is sah-weet!

To be fair, he's really only done one remake, which was Planet of the Apes.

Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, and probably this new Alice in Wonderland (depending on how it's done) are moreso just new adaptations of pre-existing literature.
J-Ray
J-Ray on Aug 06 '08 at 12:53am
Sleepy Hollow was sort of a remake.
juliejeremiah
juliejeremiah on Aug 06 '08 at 12:55am
I wouldn't call that a remake, it was based on a well-known folk tale, not a previously shot movie....albeit with perhaps some influence from the Disney cartoon short.

J-Ray on Aug 06 '08 at 12:55am
And The Demon Barber has been done many times as a stage musical.

Ahh yeah I kinda forgot about Sweeney Todd....that's kind of borderline.

Anyways, according to Wikipedia, Johnny Depp is cast to play the Mad Hatter.

It's gonna be an acid trip. Not that I would know what an acid trip were to feel like, but I'd imagine Tim Burton + Alice in Wonderland = acid trip.

i was skeptic, and the casting for alice got me a bit worried even moreso. i think tim burton can do it, but he really has to work on it. the problem with him is that he tends to do his own take on properties that already have masterpieces. so his is inevitably overshadowed. charlie and the chocolate factory worked okay for me but compared to wonka, you know, it wasn't up to it. and planet of the apes just blowed.

i'm hoping for the best though.

same here^

And yeah, the previous disney version was a little creepy and messed up. Maybe disney will make this the first r-rated disney movie! Or at least pg-13...hopefully.

If he does it right it could totally rule!

It'll be cute and sell DVD's. I only read the books recently and thought they were great. People seem to gloss over the fact Lewis Carrol was a paedophile though... he used to enjoy photographing naked children, it's well documented. Why Disney would want anything to do with a paedophile is beyond me, but there you go.

Patton Oswalt's hands are registered weapons, but they still let him do voice work for ratatouille, you know... even after he killed the janitor with a clip board.

well he enjoyed taking pictures of naked children, that part is not speculation.

Is Lewis Carrol the author of alice in wonderland?
ginetteginette
   ginetteginette on Aug 06 '08 at 5:56pm
to say that everyone who takes nude photos of children is for pedophilic reasons is pretty ridiculous.

he was a photographer as much as he was a writer so it's not inconceivable that he strayed into nude photography. there are plenty of photographers even today who take photographs of nude children and as much as they seem to 'disturb' certain ultra sensitives there not pedophilic in nature, like this one:
