Threadless

I'm relatively new to threadless, and as such I'm not sure if this has been discussed before. But anyway, it's gettin' to be that time of year again, and I'm in the market for a new snowboard. So I go looking around, and something strikes me. Threadless designs would look great on a snowboard!

So now I'm wondering, has Threadless ever considered selling custom snowboards, of either existing designs, or having a specific contest for snowboard art? There are already companies that create custom boards using your own art, so I know this type of thing is possible. I would think the only question is, are there enough snowboarders that shop threadless to warrant it? I would guess 'yes' :)

So I put together a few examples to demonstrate what existing threadless designs would look like on a board, shown below. My apologies to any designers if you are not pleased by my use (or slight modification in some cases) of your designs for demonstration here. Just let me know and I'll take it down.

Anyway, I thought it could be a really cool winter idea, and i'd open the floor to discussion.

**EDIT**

Even more! Don't know how I missed these the first time around. If this isn't evidence that threadless should be doing snowboards, I don't know what is...

i think smooth criminal, electric jellyfish, bottlenecked and octopus turned out best, since they fit really well into the confines of the board. Of course, a lot of designs could be modified to fit better than they would currently. And then there's the option to create all-new designs.

I don't know, I think it'd be a really good idea

Skateboards and snowboards seems like a logical next step for Threadless designs.

What do the staffers thing? Time for a staff meeting?

That's a great idea. I'm not sure if I would ride one, it depends on who they would get to manufacture them, but I think it would be sweet to get one with your design on it if you won as part of the prize package. I'm assuming that would up the value of the prize by about $600 or so. Skateboards would be way cheaper and easier for them to do since you can silk screen them.

good points TheArtRobot. I wouldn't think that custom boards like these would be on the horizon of higher-level riders that demand precise specs on their boards...but for general riders, I think there could be a market.

it would be sweet to have threadless snowboards, I mean, it looks cool, but I dont' know about how they would sell, you know?
Jack31081
Jack31081 on Sep 06 '07 at 12:21pm
that's why i'd like to get some staff input. it may very well be the case that this sort of idea has already been considered and the decision was that there wasn't enough of a market for it.
Ken4784
Ken4784 on Sep 06 '07 at 12:33pm
Staff input is the next logical step, Jack. Do it up, rock that sh*t, and, how can I make some of my own designs onto the snowboard layout? Teach me o wise one

ill admit it, those look awesome... but I dont snowboard, so Id probably only use them to hang on my wall and brag about how I was once the greatest snowboarder ever until I got horrible indigestion one day and lost the will to continue
Jack31081
Jack31081 on Sep 06 '07 at 2:34pm
well, one can dream, valor.

and tora? indigestion would never stop a real snowboarder. you're gonna need a bigger excuse. I'm thinking something along the lines of brain dama...no. uh, broken le...no. blindne...no. no, i'm pretty sure once you start, you never stop. for anything.

...except summer, that is. and that's only if you don't have the coin to get up north.

isneked

if your worried about the quality of the snowboards go browsing around the internet for manufactures that make expensive ones

maybe an Australia or Netherlands company or something
Jack31081
Jack31081 on Sep 07 '07 at 1:43pm
like, companies that manufacture the boards for k2, burton, ride, etc etc??

I hadn't even thought of that, figured everyone had their own manufacturing facilities.
FRICKINAWESOME
   FRICKINAWESOME on Sep 07 '07 at 2:03pm
These are amazing! I'm an old-school skier, so maybe we can cut the designs in half for each ski to get into the fun? lol. Just playin', but these are really well done. Electric Jellyfish, the watering one, and all the ones you spread over the whole board look righteous.

Threadless is really busy with their store openings right now, but maybe somewhere down the line Threadless will start printing all its most popular or appropriate designs on cool objects.

Starting with those trucker hats that maybe Travis made a few months back.

I want to congratulate you on the fact you actually brought us images of your idea. There are blogs all the time "Threadless should make..." But none have any visuals to go along with them. You have won me over. I may move up north and learn to snowboard because of this.

im sure if you did enough searching you could find carpenters and woodcutters that carve some boards by hand

they might be really cheap to
