Threadless

bygrinstow aka Jon aka Bygrinstow is a 43.61 year old boy, has been a member since July 30, 2007, has scored 4,857 submissions, giving an average score of 2.10, helping 126 designs get printed.
So far, I can't break 30% on anything. Most settle into the 'teens. I'm not sure that's a bad thing at all.

Overall, submissions are limited. I think that may mean that the staff can basically review everything that's subbed, or at least those with a double-digit score after a week of voting.

And realistically, out of however many people are visiting Threadless in any given time period to shop, if 15% of them liked a design, I imagine that works out pretty well for Threadless. I kept a half-assed eye on Pirates when they reprinted it: it looked like over ten a day sold, until lately when the sizes available became limited. I'm sure there are multiple hundreds of folks visiting to buy on any given day, if /everywhere is anything to go by (and I think it is). If there are 1000 shirts sold in a day, and Pirates sold ten, that's 1%. From peeking in on /everywhere, I'm fairly sure more than 1000 shirts are sold in a day, and yet it was worth their while to print Pirates. And then re-print it.

Getting scores for slogans in the 60-80% range under the old system was a nice ego boost, but it didn't mean something was getting printed (i.e. Jess' Time Machine, Courtney's slew of goodness, and others my brain is not conjuring at the moment). But I think, under the new system, maybe any slogan with a score above 10% has a pretty good chance if the staff likes it.

So how are your scores working out?

My slogans are the bomb... And by that, I mean, my slogans are bombing hard... But this maybe because I suck at this sorta thing. Maybe I should stick to math slogans.

Hmmm... Sorry for the doble post... Threadless reallt needs to give the author of comments the ability to remove their own comments. Oh well... Sorry, I wasted more space in your blog with this apology.

unfortunately I think I hit a creative slump right before the new scoring system came into play. Now I can't seem to get above 40%. I still don't know if older slogans (i.e. one week+) are still viable, but maybe one day...

I would say the 10% bar is a little low, but the theoretical increased visibility for selection is probably good for everyone. I guess we'll see.

I have gotten a few over 40% by picking the cream of my unprinted crop and resubbing some.

As of new ideas, those usually struggle in the 20-30% range.

My slogans are scoring pretty ugly, or ugly pretty.

@Krimson: How did you resub your old slogans?
Krimson
Krimson on Feb 26 '11 at 1:23pm
Cleaned up punctuation and such. I had a tendency to submit things as full sentences in the past.

I haven't submitted a slogan in, like, 2 years. I deleted the ones under 35% though (And there were a lot).

I'm not popular enough to have good slogans. XP

Mine are scoring low, but I blame myself not the voters or the system.

Unrelated, but Krimson this is one of the funniest slogans I've ever seen: A rose by any other name would be improperly classified

I guess the real proof will be when things start getting printed and we see what the scores were for them...

I guess those have scored!

Meanwhile, I keep forgetting to sub stuff with the countdown timer thingy in place...

Congrats for getting above 30! So far that's only been a very temporary number for me...

I can't say I've had anything to post to score badly, goodly, or otherwise -- been a little overwhelmed.

Since the new system came in I've subbed 8 slogans with an average score (at time of posting) of 30.5%

*sighs and remembers the heady days of 86% slogans...

Only one of mine is above 30% since the new system was implemented, but that's par for the course for me. I think I like how the new system works. I can actually score the entire pool of slogans. It's great.

Neil, that was scored much more highly before, wasn't it?

What about "A Restraining Order Has..."? That seems to be an even more direct phrasing to me.

Krimson on Apr 02 '11 at 11:28pm
It is probably actually good that slogans are much harsher now, easier to pick out the decent ones, and a more accurate value (with more votes).

Back in the day, you could have a blog up-vote them and it was hard to tell which ones were flying under their own power.

30% is high for me. I've had a couple settle around there.

highest is 78 on 33%. meh. It is disheartening. oh well.

I'm not too bothered by getting 30%-ish; If 100 people walked into a room, and 30 gravitated to something I'd created, I'd feel pretty good about that.

Jon - yeah it did score much better before.

Maybe A restraining order has forced me to stop following my dreams. will fare better?

(thanks for the suggestion)

All about me

Hi,

Do you have a moment to spare for my design blog?

Handy.

Unlike you, I'm old -- old, do you hear! But just like you, I enjoy pictures of vegetables with faces on them and bemoaning the number of submissions to Threadless with skulls in them.

Also, I'm totally sure my own submissions will make me the most beloved member of the community. Or something.
