is this making fun of the fact he wasn't the one who really did that?

i like it either way, great design

I like it on purple.
I'd say, keep the text. (Is it bad that I had to look up Paul Revere?)

I wouldn't have gotten the Paul Revere reference without the text, and now that i know this, it's totally more amazing than my eyes first thought it was. Really nice and different stuff for you!

i think i prefer without the text

what you could do is make an animated gif that starts with showing text and then have it take a while to transition to show no text... so just as all those lose the text junkies start to get pumped, theyll totally be blindsided... and explode!

also

this is awesome dood

I agree with Tora, make a text and without text version, but something about seeing the words "Paul Revere" and "unicorn" so close together makes me all kinds of girly giddy inside. Also, you could always put "The British Are Coming!" instead. I know I'm spelling it out too much but I think Threadless shirts are unnecessarily obtuse for the viewer of the tee to get sometimes.

isaboa, if anyone is possible of making that vision a reality, it's you, so draw it up! I wanna see! It can be your retort to my sub.

The Paul Revere thing is too US-oriented for me, but the Planet of the Apes on is BRILLIANT. Don't know if there would be copyright issues, but it's a brilliant design.

13strong on Aug 15 '08 at 10:59am
To be honest, I would submit either of these as regular non-contest submissions.

"I don't really get what they have to do with the concept of democracy", well there's Paul Revere and then the Statue of Liberty, two of the many iconic symbols of the foundation of democracy in the USA.

The Statue of Liberty was presented to the United States by the people of France in 1886 and commemorates the centennial of the signing of the United States Declaration of Independence and is a gesture of friendship from France to the United States. [1] The Statue of Liberty is recognized the world over as a symbol of freedom from oppression and tyranny. Unfortunately our current government does not portray those virtues of freedom in the world but things are changing and with the election of Obama, I can only hope for better things. However, if you're inclined, you can just think of this statue as the one that resides in France because there is also one in France, therefore, that ape must speak French and instead of Beepp Beep Beep, it's Bloip Bloip Bloip.

And Paul Revere, glorified after his death for his role as a messenger in the battles of Lexington and Concord, Revere's name and his "midnight ride" are well-known in the United States as a patriotic symbol. [2] And as we all know, the American Revolutionary War was won by the colonialists and they were able to declare independence from the British Empire resulting in a democratically elected government, of the people and for the people... not of late but, again, Obama... or I may have to move to France.

So why did I used American references, because I was originally from South Africa and moved to the USA at a young age to escape the brutality of the Apartheid System. I was obviously not suppressed under Apartheid because I am white, but I would have been conscripted into the military at 18 to serve that system.

Even if they don't win the Democracy contest, they can always be printed, thus they are always in contention for the regular contest.

Thanks everyone, I'm sure I'm going to get these same questions while these subs are in the running.

I know what the images are, and what the real things represent, but what I was saying was that the first happened before there was democracy, and the image itself doesn't clearly establish a democratic theme, and the second would seem to have happened after the fall of democracy, and also doesn't portray a democratic theme.

We are all allowed to interpret these themes the way we want, so I wouldn't vote lower on these because they seem off topic in my eyes (I do like them to be clear), but when I look at either of those I don't go "oh, this is about democracy."

Sure, but that's why imagination is fun. I could have just drawn Paul Revere and I could have just drawn the Statue of Liberty, sure, or I could have drawn someone casting a ballot. I dunno, I just had fun with it. but I see where you are coming from and I'm sure there'll be a bunch of questions while voting and I don't submit to win anymore, I just wanted to do them. But I wouldn't mind winning... of course

something about meshing revolutionary era concepts with fairy tale creatures really strikes a chord with me

like steam punk and something studio ghibli would do

I'd be the worst dad, I'd make up crazy stories for my kids about Paul Revere and his Unicorn and then when they go to school they'll be all messed up, the teachers will have no idea. But I'm also planning on naming my boy Sue, so, he'll have more to worry about than his Dad's messed up imagination.
