From Ross (arzie13)

So... the super glow we use is basically like a translucent (slight greenish yellowish tint.... not much though) gel, it does go on a bit thick (so don't cover the whole shirt in glow, it would cause major sweat issues and you might be bulletproof). It definitely works better when placed over a lighter color, esp. white but does work over other colors to.

The super glow comes in magenta, orange, blue (think tron), dark green, lemon, and natural (which is what you think of as glow green). The super glow is expensive stuff, so we only stock the natural color - it has a shelf life but for this contest we can use all of them. Go nuts!

The different glow colors are all near transparent gel like inks that have a slight tint of their glow color when they are not glowing.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Awesome, thanks Ross!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

And, from my own experience, UV inks are never clear or non-visible, they just turn 80% darker once in the sun, therefore it's a good idea to use the inks on a light tone, off-white tee or just use a white tee, who cares.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

GID inks are not "invisible"

Oh don't be so coy Rob! you know you've already got like eight awesome subs for this contest you are waiting every few days to unleash upon us unsuspecting Threadless voting folk...

hahaha. Ideally, I would like to have a bunch of subs ready to release at any given moment. Realistically, I sit in front of the tele with my cat and watch really bad tv shows.

yep, need some specifics. I've dealt with UV reactive inks but have never been fond of quirky inks, I'd prefer to so with plain jane plastisols. Although my one select tee with the fox faces is freakin awesome!

I have been wondering this for a while. Can glow in the dark inks be different colours or do they just come in that standard greenish colour?
Robsoul
   Robsoul on Feb 29 '08 at 1:21am
I've also seen crazy pinkish GID ink. Erosty Pop makes some amazing tees with GID.... actually, I don't think it's Erosty Pop, I'll look into it tomorrow while at work. Off to bed.

glow ink I've seen is usually a really pale green-yellow color on the shirt. Similar to pms 372.

well, that's the only kind I have printed in the shops I've worked at anyway. Not sure what Threadless uses.

From what I've seen and owning "Star Men in Moon's Milk"...it works best when the glow ink is on white or other really light color, so you don't notice it much. Since Star Men was a black t-shirt, they had to put it on top of the white ink to make it work. I've never seen it work on anything but really light colors, so don't try putting it directly on a black background (like many of the subs here wrongly) and expect it to just magically show up. Look at Flying Mouse and Radiomode for correct glow-in-dark usage. Abeadle also.

I don't know if that helped...but that's what I know...I think :-)

we all want to know!

from the shirts i got in the mail that used glow in the dark ink on white shirts (trying to conceal the ink in daylight) it didn't work well at all. Even without washing i thought it looked pretty obvious and glaring. Personally i wouldn't recommend that type of thing, but it does seem to be a good gimmick that works for a lot of people

I was wondering about the colours. For instance would it be possible to do something along the lines of this:

The signs are everywhere - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

but have the lit-up parts of the signs as GID ink while still maintaining the different colours?

Hey Kooky, the "horns" have the thumb tucked in. What you have there is sign language for "I love you." Which I prefer anyway, but I don't know if that's what you wanted or not.

I wanna know too.

It's amazing how you knock me off my feet, hmm
Everytime you come around me I get weak, oh yeah
Nobody ever made me feel this way, oh
You kiss my lips and then you take my breath away
So I wanna know

I wanna know what turns you on (yeah I'd like to know)
So I can be all that and more (I'd like to know)
I'd like to know what makes you cry
So I can be the one who always makes you smile

this is a very good question! one that an answer would help me with my new submission. I went ahead and designed it assuming they could print a layer of GID ink over top of the whole design. not sure if it would work tho...hopefully it wont get declined...
