What gets you to vote on designs?

Follow-up: What gets you to keep voting on designs continuously?

It's just something I like to do here. I don't even mind slogging through all the truly terrible designs. I think it has to do with seeing designers develop and change over time, how they refine their styles or change it up completely. There's a certain kind of satisfaction I get from giving my own humble opinion in the whole process, even if it's only me clicking on a number from 0 to 5.

Man, I go through phases of voting. I used to vote on everything ever but it got really hard to go through so much bad to see the good.

It gives you an idea what will print next by looking at comments and votes on the subs.

It helps you keep track of your fav. designers by looking at their latest work.

Gives you an idea of the latest trends.

It's fun

Even if you don't submit designs you might submit slogans and it feels good to be able to vote as people vote for your slogans.

It allows you to to be a part of the community .

Inactivity gets me to vote again. Either I'm like "whoa I haven't voted in a while" or "whoa that voting club thing is cool" or "I could really use a high five right now" gets me back to voting. But I do usually vote on designs that were being promoted on the blogs. My page is filtered so I don't see the designs. I also get back into voting if I submit a design, just to see if anything's been trending or if some new style is dominating.

Distracted by other, shinier things, mostly, but I've also fallen off of buying clothes and things for a while, so I don't feel as motivated by what prints and what doesn't.

I vote every day out of habit, even if I don't say a word in the blogs, I make sure I get the high five each day. Its been over a year now that i've been doing it and I really don't know why I do it.

MikeyB - but you're a design submitter! So for you it's more of an internal trigger? Guilt?

MattyDev - Do you feel obligated?

Once in a while it feels like a chore I'm obligated to do, but that feeling is rare. I guess I sit at the computer waiting for kids to turn work in for me to grade, so I turn to scoring when there's nothing else to do while waiting. Also the there is whole thing that scoring does effect whats printed, so I see it as influencing my wardrobe since I wear a t-shirt 5-6 days per week.

For me, I feel that voting first and foremost shows your dedication to Threadless and its art community to try and score as many designs as possible, as well as give the most honest opinion of it as I can to give insight to the artist(s) into how their work speaks to the me and what I think could be improved, which can be completely ignored or whatever :)

Like others have said, i really love watching an artist's progression from first coming here and how they keep exploring and expanding their art expressions, Murraymullet and Alexmdc and now Noh_Body are prime examples of this amazing progression.

And of course I love art, wearable art is even cooler and the amount of brain tickles and blow aways I get from going through designs and slogans from people here is just too brilliant and shines too brightly not to wanna see and vote on as much as I can.

well said, Cris.

Evan - Thanks for the insight, I feel as though you might be an exception to the norm of non-designer voters, whatever that norm is, still trying to figure it out.

As a Threadless warehouse employee, I have a pretty close relationship with all the designs that come through. I have to physically check them, collect them and send them out.

Therefore, it's in my best interest to make sure that what we're sending out is the stuff that we really like, or at least the stuff that we believe is good. We want to take pride in what we're sending out to the world. It's all part of the cycle of making something that people really believe in and want to support. If we want to see something go to print, the only way to make that happen is to vote on it, especially as an individual with little visually artistic talent.

Basically the idea is that if we [non-submitters] aren't contributing to the cycle by creating the designs we want to see, we better vote on the ones we want to see printed.

I agree with babyknucks... Since I'm just a lurker I have to show support and participate some how and voting on subs and slogans helps.
