Maltzmania aka underscored infinity has been a member since July 15, 2007, has scored 135,758 submissions, giving an average score of 2.76, helping 1,831 designs get printed.
I know this has been asked a million different ways and in probably 85 different surveys, but...

I'm doing a little research on this for a potential crowdsourcing endeavor of my own, and was curious as to what gets you, or got you, or both to come here, stay, and vote, and design in as many or as little words as posssible?

What got me here: a friend had some designs running, so I came over to score.

Why I stayed: it's fun to see what different artists are creating, and some of you are pretty neat!

Came for the want of cool clothes in March 2006. At first I did not stick around for more than about 2 months. Bought some stuff on and off that year. Skipped 2007 entirely. Swung back in 2008 for a bit, bought some stuff on and off again (probably out of curiosity this time). Then reintroduced myself in 2009 and have been here since, buying fairly regularly.

2006 - did not connect with others on here, so left
2009 - I was able to connect with others, stuck around, and I guess everything grew out of that (voting, designs, slogans, etc.)

I was on a free pic sharing website, it was a bit like tumblr and I saw a link.

What kept me here? well it's a nice site with cool people. I haven't found any success in any tangible form, but I've managed to show my work, some aspects of my pics have improved and I've seen lots of cool pics by great artists such as B7, Ratkiss, alexdmc and Aphte.

I wish I could remember how I found out about Threadless, but it was back in 2006. I just bought shirts, I didn't participate in the voting or community until a year ago. I had a desire to reinvent myself and expand and improve my skills as a designer. Putting up a sub and following it's success (or humiliating non-success) is addicting. And I like the community.

great community, cool shirts, a cult brand for UK designers, getting my third sub printed, brilliant staff, cool people to chat with and it keeps evolving daily and I haven't even been here that long.

came here because a friend told me she liked the shirts here. when i first looked at the site, i thought the shirts were cool and all but i couldn't afford anything. the next week i checked the site out again and there was a $10 sale. i created my account, bought shirts, and posted a couple of blogs not knowing there was a forum.

a year later, i found the forum link and kind of stuck around because of the people that were around. the blogs were filled with contests and a lot of goofiness. gotta love this community.

there were shirts for 10 bucks, which was totally cheaper and cooler than the dumb 18 dollar hot topic/pac sun/mall shirts I bought at the time (so cool!).

I stayed because I really wanted to fit in and be cool and tight. So tight, so cool.

I typed in "funny shirts" one day in a pre-Google search and found Threadless. Loved the t-shirt's unique styles so I checked out the entire site and bought some tees. I didn't join as an actual member for half a year, and then I loved voting/commenting on designs here and really got into the thought of being able to play a role in what shirts got printed. Started blogging and got even more interested and involved. Threadless a year into me being a member rolled out the type tee line (or condensed it from OMG Clothing), and I started making slogans like a mad man before branching out to collab with all the artists I admired here.

Now it's just too much fun not to be constantly outputting and seeing what others are doing and making friends from around the planet!

First came here cos I wanted somewhere cool to start getting work online and and also because I love cool tees. Stayed because it is very addictive, full of lovely, good-hearted, inspiring and creative people and because the process of subbing, and hoping for print is so much fun. Most importantly I've made some good friends here.
I keep going away but I always end up coming back:)

i came here because a guy on deviantart submitted a design and asked people to vote on it.

then i stayed because i was like "ah dang i want to get printed"

then eventually as the forum and community grew i stayed because of that.

I got here from a link that was posted by the guy who runs Ctrl+Alt+Del. I got into the fun tees and stuff. I'm not really sure what made me stay long enough to participate in the community, but here I am.

Found this site via a blog and checked out some cool tees (in particular Olly Moss' stuff). Stayed and decided to have a go with the design part. Met some great people here too!

I can't remember how I first found threadless, but I remember falling in love with that green shirt with the fields on it. I remember staying up so late it was more morning than night, just scrolling through every page of shirts and thinking this was the best place in the world.

Then I posted a "hi I'm new" blog which earned me a smallish noob hazing, namely the photo of a really fat guy in gold spandex, which I promptly deleted. I hid for about a month, lurking around the awesome shirts and avoiding the forums because I wasn't cool enough to hang out there.

And then one day I commented on something and it turned out that nobody actually hated me, so I stayed, maintaining the idea that one day I'd submit a design. And that's where I am today.

Actually, I stayed because of all the wonderful, friendly and inspiring people. But I do still intend to submit a design....

5 years ago i bought a computer, and began to create some pictures with photoshop.I never had one before.Later, i was searching for a way to showcase my digital works, so i opened some accounts to sell prints..A friend told me about tshirt design contests.I made a google search and found threadless among some others website.I didn't submit for one year, i didn't even know what was a png file, or an ai ! i was staying away from illustrator like if it had flew...when i look at my first sub i'm just ashamed, i didn't ask threadless to delete it , just to remember how bad i was, (not meaning at all i'm good now, just learned a lot, and perfected my skills see i learned all i know about design here , yes, true). Why i'm staying? even if i didn't been printed?I like designing now, it became important in my life, perhaps more than painting, which should be my daily activity.I guess i like competition too, i like to look at other people work ( sorry guys i'm not a huge commenter). In a way Threadless and designing, changed my life, my kharma came back to zero ;-)))

A friend of mine had a link posted on her website, I checked it out, saw "Communist party" and fell instantly inlove (being younger and a devoted socialist back then). After that, I'd browse it occasionally to look at the cool and clever artwork but I had no idea that there was such a strong community on here.

THEN my boyfriend started getting interested in design instead of comics so i told him about this site, told him to start submitting his stuff, which he did and then the bastard got printed! So now I'm here to win myself to wash that smug look off his face!

Nah, really tho. It's superinspiring and love the community. Would love to be more active and sub more stuff but hey, life gets in the way.

I saw a story about Dark side of the garden on Wired and followed the link here. I bought shirts without signing up for a bit, then I joined and lurked for a while before I dared to talk to anyone. Mostly come here now to see if old friends have checked in. Still score and hang here but not like I did when I first joined back in 2006

My sophomore year of college I saw an ad for the Threadless Loves Comebacks competition and I thought it included slogans so I submitted about 20. Then after about 4 months I realized they didn't ever print slogans so I left the site. Then about 4 months after that I got an email about the creation of the typetees site so I came back, started chatting in the blogs, and never looked back.
