Some friends of mine are coming to Philadelphia in March, and they really want to take a bus/train up to New York for a day, and I'm trying to see how well that would work.

If you could go to New York for one day, what would you see?

Have you been? What's lame?

Do you live there? Wanna come and show some Tennessee bumpkins around?

What are you wearing? Is it getting hot in here, or just you?

Becca and I did a couple day trips on the bus, you should ask her because I don't remember things very well.

I'd like to see the Met. MoMA is cool too. I went to NY in October and it snowed on me and I was cold.

Yeah, I was looking at Megabus tickets, and for the three of us, it would be less than $40 for the trip there and back, which is not bad a'tall.

Steve's right about the museums.
I took my parents to Central Park because it was a BEAUTIFUL day. And there is nothing quite like Central Park when it's beautiful.

Plus you're right next to many museums.

That would give you plenty to do.

NOW if it's raining it's a different story

Holy shit, Central Park is huuuuuuge.

I'm not sure what all she wants to see, but it seems like there's so much, that there's no way to see enough of it.

Can I come bug you guys? The museums are free in NYC, just like DC, but they herd you into these lines where there is an $18 suggested donation you really feel is not a suggestion nor a donation. Don't cave to pressure, just breeze in and drop a dollar in the donation bin. They won't hassle you.

Try to see the funky neighborhoods. Avoid Times Square. Totally overrated. Next time I go I want to peruse Greenwich and stuff.

Is that a serious offer, Amy? Because you are more than welcome to come. Brian isn't going because he hates us (and it's the middle of the week, but mainly the first one) and it would be kind of neat to have someone who's been there to help us wander.

Honestly, though, I have a feeling we're doing Times Square. Because it's not far from where the bus would drop us, and they're already wanting to do the touristy Philly stuff, so I think it's happening.

times square is quick and easy... then you can walk up to the southern part of the park, maybe do lunch in the park at a stand or find a food truck... then keep walking north to MoMA. the afternoon there, may take the subway back south to Chealsea or SoHo and do a little window shopping and nice dinner.

Let me try writing that again, I hit enter way to prematurely.

If you want to really see the statue you have to go out to it and its takes up a good part of the day.

it's totally quick and easy. you wander across it, be amazed at how few people are there compared to what you expected, wonder how any of the advertising gets any attention amidst so much visual noise, and then catch the subway somewhere else.

   nathanwpyle at gmail.com on Feb 18 '12 at 1:17am
it's true you can cut across it on your way to the Shake Shack on 44th and at least see it that way. What you want to avoid about Times Square is trying to walk through it North-South. That is no fun and not all that rewarding

megabus?? I don't like megabus. their baltimore stop is soooo far away.

If you did Bolt I might think about it. But probably not because that one's still a bit far.

so HA!
