So do people use flashy action scripts and such to show the designs on heaps of different colours, because they have no faith in their own colour choices or because they actually think the shirt if printed, is going to be printed on every possible colour?

That was a huge sentence! Don't mean to sound like a whine or anything but i think it needs to be put out there as it could potentially help alot of less experienced users that are sub'ing. Most of the strongest shirts seem to be designed for a certain colour shirt with that shirt in mind when the colour choices are made. It's pretty basic colour theory, colours just look different relative to other colours.

Love to hear any thoughts or theories on this topic. Also love to hear from printed designers if they present their subs on one considered colour or more? dun dun dun

I think people like to see variety...If one color combo doesn't work for someone, maybe one of the other combos the designer presents will do it for them.

a bunch of people score subs lower just because they dislike the color choices. Maybe the designers are trying to prevent that by showing the design in multiple colors and on different colored shirts.

generally speaking catus is right I tend to just work with one set of colors in mind though

cool, interesting to hear.

I wondered if that was the case, I think often i give subs lower scores for the mutli-colour presention because it makes me think they haven't actually finished designing it and they skipped the critique forum. wonder if anyone else does the same.

threadless only ever print on one colour or one colour for each gender right?

you should score the design, not the color choices.

Yeah, I don't think it's right to give a design a lower score under the assumption that they didn't finish designing it. Not everyone goes through the critiques, and as kb said, presenting variations in color is most often just a way to appeal to as many voters as possible.

I generally design for a specific shirt colour, but i'm mindful of the other colours it would work on. I like showing option because some people have a dislike of a specific colour. If you show them one they like they might just give a better score.

I've always designed for a specific color shirt... but on my most recent design (currently pending approval) I put 4 different choices because someone in the critique mentioned that it might be scored lower specifically because someone might not like that color shirt.

threadless chooses what sort of colors they want for the print in the end

so with this all fresh in our minds, whats a good number to show? and what's excessive?

I guess it really depends on whether or not the color choices actually work well, but there probably is a set number people are willing to look at.

I'm thinking a maximum of 3-5 different color choices is a good number for people to choose between.

Haha yea mint is wicked. I personally love natural, but because their's a big anti-white thing I fear natural is too close to white, are my fears unfounded? and kiwi is just about the sweetest t-shirt colour ive seen but i think it scares people.

Good subject, I design with a color scheme in mind, but when I get to the end and its finished. My favorite thing to do is change the color of the shirt, then change the color of the designs to go with the shirt. I could do that for hours just for fun.

(also, I hate the submissions in flash that blink and change colors, it hurts my eyes)

you'd be surprised at how many people will "0" a shirt design because it's shown to be on a certain color shirt. so showing multiple options will generally prevent that.
