definitely has a consistent look. right now its detailed illustrations i think

maybe that will change with this new line of simple selects (prob not?)

I am waiting patiently for the detailedness craze to go away. I have no chance at it.

But there are people consistently designing stuff no detailed that have been doing okay too... like Tang's optical illusions.

I think there are many looks. Many categories. You could group all the watercolours and they'd all look similar then group all the FWF and they'd all be similar but if you put a FWF next to a watercolour they're completely different looks.

I was thinking about this the other day, and the thought I was thinking was that you could probably make an info graphic based on regular submissions and how they fall into certain style categories.

Threadless has a unique look in part thanks to it's decision to defy mainstream convention and stick to a serif font in an ocean of clinical sans-serif websites. It is this kind of disregard for existing practices and accepted norms that epitomises the Threadless brand and sets it apart from the rest.

Hi yeah, Garo. I made a threadless formula list for myself once.
95% falls into one of these formulas.

If there's one catch all* theme for tee designs it's the"I get it" factor.

I get the impression they didn't change it on a whim. I bet they had meetings about it. There was probably market research and statistics. Font pie charts.

And then they went with the font only 30% of their visitors actually have installed.

It wasn't a complete whim, all the redesigned pages like product, catalog, book, etc have been using it over the past 6 months

Oh sorry. It looked like on a whim to me.
The font works great on larger sizes and I like the redesigns of product pages but helvetica on the blogs doesn't work so well for me.
I can work around it by making my browser zoom in by 125% though.

so designers follow design trends... so why wouldn't threadless represent that?

I also think they try to have tee's for "all kinds of peeps". humor, type tees, artistic, maybe a little avant garde, cute, parody, etc.

I don't think it had a "look" as such, the designs printed are too broad really.

Btw, Helvetica online sucks.
