RIP -- death of a laptop

a good friend that i've know for the last 5 years has passed away.
i will miss you Apple "rodriquez" Powerbook g4.

i've backed up all of my illustratoins except for 3.
one was a illustration for democracy loves.
i was so fucking proud of it.

my laptop died while i was doing a color job at 3 am.

oh no...now I'm affraid for my Apple's life. He's 5 years old too...but it had it's motherboard replaced about 2 years ago, so I don't know if that'll help him live to be 6 or not.

my laptop really was my friend though,
had it through my entire carrer.
got into bike crashes with it.
it helped me reminisce to all the times i was homesick.

it was like my happiness machine.
we were best buds!

That sucks. I woulda liked to see what you came up with for the democracy competition.

My old ibook is on its last legs. It starts making loud screeching noises sometimes. I'm afraid to use it because I know the HD is gonna die any minute. As it is now I do all my designing at work (its pretty sketchy, probably gonna get fired for it).

5 long years with my best bud, and no apple care.
not a single problem.

they way i look at it, i payed for that mac 4-5 times over
with the amount of freelance i got with it.

I've got a working IBM thinkpad 390x (circa 99) not really using it much anymore but it has a light version (tinyMe) of PCLinuxOS installed on it

thing was a roadwarrior for many years of random user schmucks banging it about.

with the exception of a broken off port cover and various other assort scrapes scratches.. thing works like a ....well slow piece of crap =p (pIII 450 192MB ram) but runs... actually it is not bad (useable) w/ the TinyMe OS)

did have to replace ram on it at one point as the orig was small and also started getting errors.

however not withstanding BEAT THAT MAC USERS !!!

the thing is freaking heavy and giganticly thick 2" to be percise~ish maybe 7lbs or so...

maddingo , I have an old school iMac from 1999 that I still occasionally use for shits and giggles and it works just fine. So suck it! Macs are the shit and unlike PCs, they don't get bogged down with spyware, viruses, and startup problems that slow shit down.

Anti-Mac people are just jealous, end of story. To anyone who has ever considered a Mac, once you go Mac, you'll never go back. Macs become your little digital friend. They are full of personality and aren't cold, glitchy, non-user friendly machines. They are your buddy and can't wait to help you do anything you need to do!

I have an iBook g4 that is just 3 years old now. She started to slow down last year and I've since upgraded to a macbookpro. The ibook now lives in the family room of my parents' house and it's a great internet/email computer for the family.

the mac users are honest to god one of the main reason i will never buy a mac.... that and I don't like and won't support apple's business practices.

I was only defending how awesome Macs and showing not only your precious fancyboy linux whatever the nerdshit it is stuff isn't the only thing that is nearly 10 years old and still works.

Macs are only a little bit more expensive, and to be honest unless you are some technical wiz, you're probably going to spend less on a Mac in the longrun cause with PCs you NEED a service plan, and you're probably going to have to end up bringing it in to be repaired and have it cleared out of things slowing it down. Now, maddingo I know that you're obviously some clickity click dot com programmer or whatever, cause I rarely even know what you're talking about. So you probably can fix all your problems, but don't slander Macs. I have NEVER been annoyed by OSX and have NEVER had a problem with it.

Illustrator and Photoshop /CS3 in general are about identical between the platforms.

explanation:

its like with any tool of the trade,
if your in a place that has a lot of honda's
you better know how to work on hondas.

see because of the bullshit mac lifestyle
people give you crap to be on those other platforms.

also although many programs have crossover filetypes
fixed, there can be some reaccuring problems.

basically the way i see it, and how it was explained to me
by my pc gamer friends.

design programs were developed for macs, therefore are better for it. games were programmed for pcs first, so dont kid yourself on trying to play games on a mac. its just not happening.

everything has is place. for now, i believe that designing is for macs.
programming and gaming are for pcs.

also i dotn hate pcs, i just dislike windows,
i've heard great things about linux and ubumptu but im not enough of a nerd
