i was at the local anime convention (YEAH ANIME NORTH! WHOO!), and i was wearing many tees those three days... the classic "ah munna eat choo!" and "rub me on your butt!" being the most recognizably popular ones... everyone was asking me where i got them from, and it pained me to tell for two reasons:

1: if i told them, then more people will know! aaah! then there will be less shirts for meee! aaaah!

2: if i told them, i would not be rewarded by doing so, because i could only give out the general url, and not my streetteam url... which would have been oh-so-useful (at LEAST 30 people said 'nice shirt', or something along those lines or stares, and out of that thirty, almost every one of them wanted to know where i got the shirts).

this brings me to me idea... business cards. yes, threadless business cards... but not really. Im a design student flunkie, so i've got the skills to make it... just not the patience to follow it through, haha... but i opened up illustrator, snagged some threadless logos from the promo materials, vip vip vip'ed with some fonts and witty-but-stupid slogan-type thingers, and voila! something that i can print off onto cheap printer paper and carry around in my wallet for me to give to people...

if i wanted, i could shell out the few pennies more and get them printed on more weighted paper to be more professional... it's all psychology when it comes to selling... the better the paper feels, the more likely they're gonna hold it longer, feel it, look at it, and overall remember it.

im thinking... i should prolly put some templates up so people can take them, print them off, and just hand-write in their username. hopefully y'all have nice printing... for those with the l33t skills, you could open up illustrator and just type it in... the not-so-leet would prolly open up photoshop, or MSpaint... but i don't care.

this is alot of reading... im sorry... but if you're interested, let me know! i can send you what i have, or if you want me to make you a card or two for you to do whatever, lemme know! free of charge... 'less you wanna buy something offa m'link! wink-nudge!

i have heat rash. in my armpits. point and laugh now please.

chickencurry... you're missing the point. whats the point in having a stpURL if you're not going to give it out? you think that word of mouth originated on the innerweb? im guessing you're rich enough to not have to worry about gaining points... or you just don't give a flying turd about collecting points...

jess4002: that's a good idea, but im weird about giving out emails... iunno... and abit lazy, so it'd prolly get lost in a filter... they'd prolly forget and get lazy, too... the thing with advertising is that it works best when it's instant, and memorable... how many times have you seen a url on a street and remembered it? even after writing it down, when have/ how often have you remembered to check said url that you've scribbled down onto a scrap of paper? mebbe its just me and im horrible at that... but i like to make life easier for others...

No, I'm just not greedy.

Look, if someone likes the shirt I'm wearing, and asks me where I got it, I say Threadless and I tell em who designed it. If they ask me how to get one, I just say Threadless.com. I'm not gonna give them a bunch of random #s to my stp link.

Besides, I know enough people on here, that, if I was having money problems and needed it, I could count on them to help. But I don't, and I won't need the extra dough. I actually prefer plugging their STP links instead.

CC: good for you. im not saying that i DONT give out the generic url... that'd be just plain stupid. i believe that everyone should know about cool things... but i figure if im going to "refer" somone about the site, i might as well get something out of it, too, n'est pas? i was at a frikkin convention... do you think i had time to tell everyone to search my username and blah blah blah? pfft no. i told them to go to the stock chart b/c its the easiest way to see if they have what you want in stock...

ps: how the heck is that being greedy? being greedy would be NOT telling people where i got the shirt... greedy AND selfish! wait... same diff...

Wait, even if someone asks you IRL, you give out your link?

And you talk about reffering as if the site owes you money...
Threadless isn't a secret society, it's a t shirt shop.

IRL? liiiiike... if i happen to be by the computer, showing my friends this wikked-cool tshirt site and they're my friends and they want to buy a shirt, i ask them if they'd buy from my url so i can earn points.... but like i mentioned, its not like i got the damn url memorized, that'd be weird.

i know its not a secret society... but its like... the more people know about something, the more popular it becomes... the less unique the item(s) is/ are... if everyone started wearing green silk fedoras, as cool as they do sound, and you already had one, you could either be like "i feel so zebraic, wearing this... i blend in and dont stand out anymore", or you could continue to wear it, and feel like an originator, setting the trends, not being set by them...

that's a lot of work to get some crappy STPs so you can buy shitty threadless shirts

uhh, o-kay, j-ray? im guessing you've not bought any shirts lately? and frankly, it's not alot of work if you think about it... print off 2 or so sheets, keep the cards in your wallet, people ask, you give, its done.

i don;'t like your attitude j-ray, i'd rather converse with chickencurry... but i have work soon. so i shall go to bed.

and i stand my grounds... as pig-headed adn somewhat nonsensical as they may be... at least i acknowledge that much.
