On my latest entry, Zombie Teddy, I received a comment that it was a bit morbid. Now, first off, I want to say that I appreciate entereidolon's honesty and that I am not saying anything negative, but this isn't the first time I've heard this. I got tons of "creepy" comments about my first entry (Jolly Jack) and I thought it was just funny.

That said, I've been working off and on with a design I am tentatively calling "Skalaveras". It is basically taking Calaveras from the Dia de los Muertos celebration and putting them in a more surreal, modern setting. Even the early sketches are already being called dark by my friends even though it's a very festive drawing.

So here's my question: For my profile pic, I've uploaded the first two unfinished models for the Skalaveras design. Do you feel that this is too morbid? Do you think you wouldn't wear it, either because it has skeletons or because it's not your cup of tea? I'd like to get some input before I bother finishing something else that might be too "creepy." Thanks.

i quite like your teddy design. i'm not sure about the style but it's a sound design.

i wouldn't your skalaveras are too morbid for me, they're quite comical. i wouldn;t wear something like that, and i'm not sure it's quite what threadless are looking for exactly, but it's not like you've got some dismembered bodies lying around or anything.

You know, so many people, so many opinions. Personally I don't think your Skalaveras are scary at all, also because el Dia de los Muertos is supposed to 'celebrate' death and remember the deceased and the illustration in your profile fits that mood quite nicely if you ask me. If your main goal is to get your shirt printed, you might want to take a look at the shirts that did get printed and come up with something that you think a lot of different people will like and want to wear (like your "It's as easy as that" illustration). If that's not your main interest, then just keep making and submitting designs that you like and let the masses be the judge of it. Or shortly said, I don't think you're morbid ;)

who says being morbid is bad?

1.
1. Of, relating to, or caused by disease; pathological or diseased.
2. Psychologically unhealthy or unwholesome: “He suffered much from a morbid acuteness of the senses” (Edgar Allan Poe).
2. Characterized by preoccupation with unwholesome thoughts or feelings: read the account of the murder with a morbid interest.
3. Gruesome; grisly.

sounds good to me..............

i dont think the zombie or the skalaveras are morbid or creepy. i actually liked the original better than the new one (zombie teddy). i wouldnt wear the skalaveras design but i dont think its too creepy or morbid, and it's worth a shot.
