I was thinking about trying to do one. Unfortunately I'm out of shape and I weigh about 270lbs. So doing one is something that even though is somewhat tangible its not going to be easy and I'm not sure if I can do it. I just need to something like this for motivation to feel like I've accomplished something in my life, plus at the weight I'm at I need to do it for health reasons.

How hard is it?

What I can I do to train?

And what other info could help?

Thanks

It's easy. Just stretch your legs a little bit before you start. Oh and drink some water about halfway through.

hahaha tesco!!

umm, i've only run two half marathons and it's not easy.

but, you don't have to run the whole thing, you can walk/run/walk, etc.

there are training guides online. it really takes a toll on your body, so you should check with your doc if he/she thinks it's a safe goal for you. ask the doc for some recommendations on how to ease into the training.

you can do it!

also, it is good to have a training buddy.

just set realistic goals for yourself! running a marathon is a monumental goal, even for people who are in decent shape. don't be discouraged if you only accomplish smaller goals. the road to being healthy is a goal in itself. :D

Realistically you're going to have to set a smaller goal for yourself then build from there. You stated you're out of shape but have you been doing any kind of running? If not then you'll want to do a few 5k races then move on to 10k and so forth. Going straight from no running to a marathon is dangerous and unhealthy. You can do it! I did.

I'm defiantly not doing a marathon any time soon. At the earliest I would like to be in shape enough to do a half marathon by the middle of next year and a full marathon sometime 2011. I really don't do any running. I play basketball 3 or 4 times a week and that is about it. I like the idea of a progression in the races.

My biggest concern or thought, other then the obvious just get out a run, is there other steps that would help me fulfill this goal.

Okay, so I haven't run a marathon yet...but one day would be nice. If you need inspiration, my friend ran across Africa to raise money for education and other various causes there. She is amazing by the way. Her name is Erin and she rocks. Here's the website. EVERYONE should check this out!!!!!!!

40 x 2.2y = x

82.2y = x - distance

82.2y + distance = x(km/ft) x 3.14

. . .

Dude, that's far.
