I've been on a diet on and off for a while, and as everyone knows its not easy. I was at 311.5 when I started and now I'm down to 276 as of yesterday. My goal is to get down to 220, but I want to quit and start eating a yummy cheese burgers and other fatty stuff. Got any tips what I can do or some good ideas for healthy food, or exercises??

Congrats on the weight loss! If you've worked so hard to make it this far, why quit? Seems like a silly thing to do.

Thanks! I just get like this after doing it for a while. Plus when I'm out seeing what other people are eating I just think how yummy it looks. Like my roommate was eating a chocolate honey bun last night with a large glass of milk! It just gets hard sometimes!

I was never big on eating healthy -- I live on a terrible diet. But I have been losing weight recently by just becoming more active. I started walking more. Everywhere. And lifting small weights. It's not much, but I've lost some weight without changing my diet at all.

keep at it!!! it's awful hard, but the rewards are amazing. Once the weight starts coming off you start to feel sooo good about yourself!!! the most important thing is not to rely on dieting alone, but to really get into a serious exercise routine - something you enjoy doing would be great, me personally I do tennis because I love it, but then I also supplement it with aerobics which I absolutely abhor, but they really make a huge difference to the way I look and feel.

and don't forget - losing weight doesn't mean you can't eat anything yummy ever. It's just about knowing when to stop. So once every week you can totally treat yourself to a chocolate honey bun with milk. As long as it's just that one honeybun, and just that one time that week. You don't have to be superhuman - just make the healthy choice most of the time.

And we believe you can do it!!! :D

This tuna melt looks delicious! The site seems to be pretty well organized for finding food that fits your diet regimen. :) I don't cook and I eat like a bum but man that looks good!

yeah, serious congrats!

sometimes when I really want to eat and I know it's only because it makes me feel good, I tell myself so. and then I say, "self, you are going to go now and do something else that makes you feel good, and you won't even feel bad about it later." and then I have a walk, or read a book, or do an art, or solve a puzzle, or race some racing games, or rearrange furniture, or clean the bathroom.

if I really want something to eat, first I'll have a glass of water to check if I'm thirsty. if I really want flavors, I keep a wide variety of herbal teas on hand.

also try treats that are mostly good for you, but still feel indulgent. Like, a large fruit salad with a dollop of ice cream on top is yummy and way better for you than just a huge bowl of ice cream ;)

Make your own food so you know exactly what's going in, don't buy any taweaways even if it looks like healthy food. Substitute lean meats and low-fat cheese and milk into any recipes.

well done on the weight loss so far!
i would semi-echo what celandinestern was saying and try not to deprive yourself entirely as it's those times that you're likely to breakdown and fall off the diet wagon completely.
treating yourself to something nice once a week isn't bad at all - if you're eating healthily 95% of the time you'll still lose weight - and it'll probably help you maintain the healthy eating for a longer period of time.
also, if you aren't doing any excercise yet, try starting with something light and building up from there to get yourself more active. Regardless of whether you want to lose weight or not it's a far better lifestyle to lead and it'll make you feel better!

You're close to my weights; I started at 325 and am now at 250, hoping to get to 175 or lower, depending on what feels right and healthy.

When my husband and I go out, we usually split things, like I'll order a cheeseburger and fries, and he'll order grilled chicken and veggies, and we'll split it up. That way we still get the "bad" stuff we want and the good stuff we need. Since becoming more active (sofball, flag-football, volleyball) the pounds are coming off easier, and I find that I don't want as much of the bad stuff anymore.

I eat a "dinner-sized" meal at breakfast, usually of a lean meat and steamed veggies (I'm not a breakfast-food fan). Then a normal lunch and a small dinner.

I recommend a low carb diet... The body works better with that. I start the morning with musli, natural yoghurt and berries (if too sour I sweeten it with fructose). I add cinnamon as well and it tastes like a dessert. Dark chocolate is healthy by the way. A lot of options and choices, you just need to learn how to make the right ones.
Anyhow, would you rather have that chocolate honey bun or a healthy body that looks great?

Totally agree with squatterjohn; substituting low-fat milk and cheese into your food makes a world of difference. I couldn't stomach eating just cold low-fat cheese, but when I cook with it I can't tell the difference. Neither can my girls or my husband, and that's great.

You're doing really well and you don't have that far to go; don't give up!

i eat a lot of stir frys, if you're into rice and vegetables. you can throw some chicken in there too if you want.

i usually use a healthy salad dressing as the sauce.

I lost a bit of weight recently and I know how tough it is when you are tempted! I found allowing one day a week where I gave myself a break - not going crazy, but having a burger for dinner or some beers, really helped.

Also, setting goals - especially if there is an event coming up helps to keep you on track.

mmmm stir fry sound good. I've trying to cut back on my rice a little though which I eat rice a roni. Maybe I should start making just white rice and adding things to eat.

Congrats bcrider! thats awesome, if you don't mind me asking how long has it taken you to lose that?

i would definitely recommend making your own rice over eating rice-a-roni. white rice is incredibly easy to make. and if you want a different flavor and a few more nutrients, you can make brown rice, which is also easy to make, but just takes longer to cook.

ohh and the reason even exercising a little bit is so great is because it'll raise your metabolism. That means you can either lose more weight faster, or you'll be able to eat a little more of what you want with the same weight loss as you would have had you not exercised at all.

LOL @ iced long-johns

I started losing weight two years ago. I had two kids in 19 months and just let it all go. I was more worried about them and the house and everything than myself. It's come off super-slowly and it was frustrating, but found the reason for my inability to lose quicker was fibromyalgia. Now that I am managing that well, the weight comes off easier. Probably 45 pounds of what I've lost has taken 6 months or so. :) The first month I started, I cut pop/soda/Coke out and that was it. I dropped 20 pounds. Then I plateaued really bad for like, ever. Then a couple pounds would come off, and then another plateau would hit. I lose weight like someone falls down separate flights of stairs.

Oh, and we basically eat a diabetic diet at home. When we're out it's more lenient, but at home I'm pretty strict with what I serve the girls and my husband. :) My husband has lost 50 pounds this year. I'm not sure the exact number of his starting weight, but it was close to 350. He's now in the two-hundreds.

Yup. What Brian said. I have a 64-ounce Mt Dew mug that I haul with me everywhere, full of ice and water. Ice lasts for 12 hours in that thing! At least one of those is downed a day. I get The Look from people that see the Mt Dew logo. :D

walk like everywhere- it doesnt seem as exhausting as sport or running, but you'll still be burning off calories

good one^, yeah- fruit instead of candy. The vitamins and natural sugar are way nicer than that candy sugar hit and last longer

FRUIT. Mmmm....

Beware of things like grapes and mangoes, though; they are a lot higher in sugar and if you're going to eat them and then be sedentary, it's not going to do you much good.

I recommend apples for treats...there's so many varieties, I never get bored of them. the thought of a nice, big, honeycrisp apple right now is making my mouth water.

and for cooked things, I have yet to meet a squash or squash recipe I dislike.

We planted tomato seedlings and they were marked incorrectly and grew summer squash. We had such an overabundance of it I couldn't use it all or even give it all away to various squash-eating people. We took a bunch back to our woods where we know a deer hideout is and left some at the edge of our fields for the bunnies.

you can still have cheeseburgers if you want- you just need to use better meat/ not so much cheese and not cool it with tons of oil and butter.

I know buffalo meat is way lean and good for you. use tomatos instead of ketchup, I'm not sure if any kind of cheese is healthier than the other... but yeah
