about Poet-Trees
  
As a speech and drama teacher, poetry plays a major part in my day to day life. I remember opening the Threadless package a few weeks ago and squealing with delight at the shirt that fell into my hands. I hadn't found opportunity to wear the shirt until last night. Dress rehearsals for an upcoming production meant that there simply was not an appropriate moment the unveil such a spectacular shirt. Last night, while searching my wardrobe for something to wear to teach two of my favourite students, I thought to myself "It's time". I pulled the shirt off its hanger and over my head, feeling the cool material against my body. Teamed with black jeans, full attention was given to the shirt. Its colours somehow seemed more bright. I went downstairs and started shelving books - I recently got 100 or so new books of poetry for use in my makeshift "classroom", and it's very difficult to find space. I was caught up in the chore, and didn't hear Martha (8) and Thomas (5) come in. I noticed the kids, and said hello, but neither of them responded to my greeting. Thomas came and stood next to me, and I could tell both he and Martha were looking at the shirt. Thomas took one finger and traced the tree shapes, while Martha stood beside him, reading the words to the poem. When she finished, there was silence for a moment. Then - "Cool shirt" "Yeah" "Yeah" And we began the lesson. |

I like the colour green. I have a thousand opinions on everything, and they nearly all rhyme. Brocolli is my favourite food. Singing is right next to breathing in the list of things that keep me alive. I enjoy jumping in puddles. The colour yellow makes me happy. I like to drink tea. I also greatly enjoy mocha coffee. My dream is to star in a broadway musical. I believe that things are better when multi-coloured. I believe completely in God. I also believe that faith is the only thing that will get you through life and keep you fully sane. I'm completely addicted to diet coke. I have more pairs of shoes that i do items of clothing. When I laugh, I can't breathe, so I squeak. My friends say I sound like a rusty bike. My handbags need to fit my sushi, two books, my diary, my phone, my makeup bag, my wallet and a bottle of diet coke. I like to bite things. Hard. I like to stand in the rain. I like to scream at the top of my lungs at least once a week. I'm a neat freak. I can't stand to work in a messy environment. I am obsessed with vintage fashion. My main beliefs lie within religion and animal rights. I like to write poems for children. I like to see them smile. |
