Wouldn't it be in A? The ending note is A and the other notes are B and E, the dominant and leading tone, 'sol and 'ti' for all you singers. It couldn't even be in an odd mode of Dm due to the B not being a Bb. Sorry, this is what I do with my time.

Yeah the designer knew that, but used that name because of the ring it has to it.
It's in some blog about it somewhere!

I think practically you are correct, this small excerpt would be A minor, but either your solfege syllables or your note names were wrong - the printed notes are G and E, corresponding to Sol and Mi in solfege. I don't even see any B's (Si's) in there at all. So from a theoretical point of view, this could actually be in D minor, with a cadence tonicizing the dominant (A) of D, with a secondary dominant (the G's and E's) preceding the resolution to A. Of course that would require the G's to be raised, and if you squint you could actually make a case for the splotch preceding the G's to be a # symbol.

Basically, it's a cool shirt.

but you can't see the key signature!

this is true, but we're assuming function as implied by the given pitch material.

a key signature doesnt make something in a certain key.. a key signature just 'reports' it..

I am so glad there is a thread about this...and for once I was not the argumentative geek to start it. :) I think Gordon's right...the excerpt could technically be modulating out of D minor, or even a half cadence in the key of D minor (except, as mentioned, for the lack of G#). I agree, it's a cool shirt regardless.

And now I feel like I should go do something productive.

this would make a VII which isn't possible, so it's most likely, in the key of dm, have a secondary dominant function V/iii and then would resolve to a iii to mimic the sound of V to i all within the key. but gordon, raising the 5th (g) would make the chord augmented, right?
