I'm not complaining. I'm just confused. Both this Select:

and this one:

seem to be created by designers not previously printed. What's up with that?

Select tees are commissioned by leaders in the field of design. Also, any Threadless designer who wins the competition 4 or more times will be invited to design a Threadless Select tee!

Select tees are an exclusive, anything-goes tee shirt canvas. They are not limited in colors like the regular Threadless tees and can use specialty inks. You can find all Select tees here: www.threadless.com/catalog/select

iDan, I'm not that new to the block. I went to these guys' account, and they hadn't seemed to be printed before. I already new about the 4 shirts rule, and that's why I was confused.

iDanSimpson

ok. Upso finds bad ass artists from all over and asks them to do a Select. it is not a necessity for them to have been printed here previously.

I don't think he chooses the selects... I think he hires good designers for a commissioned piece.

What she meant was there are fantastic designers, "top" designers who do not sub to threadless. design doesnt revolve around threadless.

Yes, but

iDanSimpson on Apr 07 '08 at 9:12pm Select tees are commissioned by leaders in the field of design.

leaders in the field of design, not leaders in the field of threadless. we get to have shirts from awesome designers who may not submit to threadless.

i doubt that if i made a living at doing editorial illustrations and got gallery shows and so on, i'd still have time to be on here all the time posting illustrations i probably won't ever get paid for.

my comment wasn't derogatory it was the truth

the truth? hardly.

it may have been a perception you had, based on an illusion you believe, created by a fallacy you made up.

kayceislost
kayceislost on Apr 07 '08 at 9:36pm
shirt she didnt mean that.

there are tons of different areas of design to have careers in. a lot of professional designers here get to do stuff they wouldnt be able to do in their jobs on threadless.

she didnt mean to bash the fantastic people we have on threadless.
ginetteginette
   ginetteginette on Apr 07 '08 at 9:36pm
for the most part shirtflirt, threadless is a place for amateurs in general and a lot of design students. what i said was of course an exageration as there can be an exception to every rule but none of the professional editorial illustrations i know through school and elsewhere would ever dream of wasting there time on a website like this. that's all

"thanks kayce, that is what i was refering to

truth is : real professionals will not submit to threadless."

I was and am a professional designer before, during, and after submitting to threadless - dickwad.

Maybe, just maybe, some of us professionals get bored of working to briefs all the time and want to enjoy our career choice without having to send a piece of work through 7 account managers for "feedback and changes". So we do arty things that get printed in books, or threadless.

Hoyboy for instance is one of the best commercial illustrators in the world right now imo. And there are plenty of other threadless submitters who have worked designed and illustrated for huge companies like coke (monaux), and had large personal exhibitions (huskworks).

So I suggest you stop painting everything with the same shade of grey.
ginetteginette
   ginetteginette on Apr 07 '08 at 9:40pm
ha yes that's exactly what i meant
bananaphone
   bananaphone on Apr 07 '08 at 9:41pm
oh and both ray fenwick and lehel, both solid threadless members, are illustrating for large new york newspapers.
iDanSimpson
iDanSimpson on Apr 07 '08 at 9:42pm
haha. bananaphone still has to resort to name calling.
bananaphone
   bananaphone on Apr 07 '08 at 9:42pm
and you can take your "stuff you know through school" and cram it because you'll get some interesting surprises when you get into the real world.
