I've decided aging is a strange buisness indeed. When I was 19 I spent 3 months in the U.S , half of it in a summer camp in Penn State. Fantastic time even though I couldn't get served booze most of the time. I remember a guy we met out there was 26 and thinking that 26 was a really old and mature age to be and so far off. I'm now 37, 3 years off 40 and half way to an age I probably won't live to. Where did it go ? It seems to have gone in the blink of an eye. I just wondered how you guys viewed the ageing process.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow shibby - so what age do you think of as old?
mype4nut
mype4nut on May 04 '08 at 10:15pm
I just turned 26. I remember thinking that was old, too. Now, I'm not so sure I have such a defined idea of what it means to be "old". I'm definitely not where I thought I would be at this age, but I'm pretty happy anyway.

Then again, I thought I would be married with kids by now. Ha!

puter - if it gives you pleasure you can dance on my grave but I warn you I plan to do wheelies in my electric wheelchair over yours if you should go first.

mypeanut - that's what I'm trying to say - the older you get the more the goal posts move as to what you consider old. When I'm 60 will I think 80 is old?
PuterBoy
PuterBoy on May 04 '08 at 10:24pm
I promise I won't.
mype4nut
mype4nut on May 04 '08 at 10:27pm
Nah. When I was 16, I thought 26 was old. Now that I'm 26, I certainly do not think 36 is old! In fact, I once read that at 20, we are psychologically "middle-aged". This means that subjectively, the amount of time we spend growing from birth to twenty is the same as twenty to death. Not in our experiences, but in our perception of them.

Whoa.

Ok - one last question. Do you younger guys think it's weird / sad / creepy when older people use Forums like this or do you not think of age as an issue when blogging. Be honest
PuterBoy

Probably anyone over 35 on a forum is a big loser.

Ya know , age never really bothered me, but as I come up on 40 (one month to go), I am really feeling it. Maybe it is all the little things, like the achy knees, the few extra pounds, the stiff hands, just adding up and getting me down. I'm sure I'll be fine, but I just don't feel 40.

I have many younger and many older friends, so being friends with the youngsters on here does not seem weird to me. I do not know if I creep anyone out, I try be to very cognizant of the age difference and not be a freak.

I got really down when I turned 30, I'm going to try and be positive about 40. I'm starting to feel the little physical things as well, like I can't stand up from a crouching position without making an involuntary grunting noise. To a certain extent I agree it's a state of mind.

using these blogs when you are 35 or older - I guess it really depends on what you are using them for.

my design, its just about missing my childhood.

when i was younger I remember calculating how old I would be in the year 2000.. 24. It sounded so far away. now im 32 or about to be anyway, and I dont like it, i hated turning 30 especially because most of my friends are still in their 20s

Now the years fly by, i know a year is just as long as it has always been, but as soon as you start having responsibilities outside of homework, it seems to go much faster.

30 did not bother me at all. 40 def will. 50? no worries, never gonna make it.

I just hang here because it is fun. The older I have become, the fewer friends I have, so it is good to hang and chat with people here. No one really seems to care about my age, I don't hide it. When I met up with folks in NYC, no one seemed to think I was strange for being there.

I agree with that sentiment Danielle. When I was a kid in the 80's the idea of it changing to the 90's was just weird and 2000 and beyond felt futuristic in a flying car kind of way.

I tell you one thing which you've touched on thier czar is the friends thing. You all have less time and they kind of fade away. It's also much harder to make friends and socialise when you're older. You feel more self conscious. the plus side is that the friends I have now I've had for 20 years plus and are as dear to me as family.

I had panic attacks for like 2 months leading up to turning 20... like "omg, I won't be a teenager anymore... I won't be a kid... my life is over".
when i turned 21 though it was like "eh..."
it's weird how much some ages freak you out :/

Yeah, you seem have found a loop in the system. But if someone younger than you has the same mantra as you, you will be in their eyes how you see everyone else.

I've confused myself there

Must be my age

Eh, I've never really felt any age is old. I mean, I think 40 is pretty young, and that 70 is a bit young to die. Then again, so is 20.

I guess it just matters in what one has done in life.

depressing post david

I feel old even though I'm only 21.

But I'm on my way to getting a degree and landing a sweet job then filling my big house with lots of material possessions to inflate my ego and give my life a sense of purpose!

Or I could take up acting

I feel kind of bad saying this but I've been going through an age crisis since I turned 18. I was so in denial I even made my mom only buy 16 candles for my cake that year.

I just feel like I'm 20 now and I don't want to get older because that means I have to have responsibility and a job and blahness. Makes me sad.

Also to answer your question a couple of posts up, no I don't think theres an age limit on the forums. It took me about a year to find out littlem wasnt the 2o something yr old I thought she was. And when I did find out it didn't really matter.
lordog
lordog on Jun 22 '08 at 6:43pm
yeah as long as you aren't hitting on underage chicks and stuff, i don't see how age could matter here.

oh and to you guys who are going through the 20-year-old age crisis, i understand! i had to be married and own a condo and have a career going by 25, or i was going to just DIE. haha. so i did all those things, hit 25, and found out that none of that was making me happy. got divorced, changed careers, sold the condo. and i'm MUCH happier now, just living my life without worrying about what i should be doing at my age. seriously, just focus on what makes you happy, rather than numbers and what you should be doing when. :) : )

happy early birthday.

i used to think 30 was old and now that i'm over 30 it feels as though i'm 50 and i'm afraid how it is going to feel when i am 50.

i understand why the elderly drive slow and walk in the middle of grocery isles as if they own the world; they irritate my roommie to no end.

That's funny, because when I complained about turning 40 a couple of weeks back, my wife (who is 4-1/2 yrs older) told me not to complain because she will always be older.
