I'm new- confused about scoring. The stuff I love most is getting low scores- even though it has a string of compliments and $5 signs. Are there trolls on the sites? Those people who go onto online communities and try to create havoc. I suspect foul play. It doesn't make sense.

can you throw out a "for example?"
a lot of the times things that run in that manner are something a lot of people who know anything about anything can dig but the other 10,000 kids who vote on here don't get.
the only way you can really go by comments is if there are A LOT of complimentary ones (I'd say 70+). Otherwise if it's a small amount of compliments it'll be pretty representative of the (small) percentage of people that actually dug it.

The average score is something like 1.97. I might be wong, but i'm pretty sure i saw shimala say that somewhere.

A good score around here is around 2.50, and a great score is 3 and up

Usually the number of total comments is proportional to the score, not the number of good comments.

I think a lot of people zero anything they wouldn't wear. It's fairly ridiculous, but it seems to be artificially lower the scores of most of the more unique submissions.

yeah theres NO WAY of knowing what a sub will get these days but they tend to print stuff from an even wider spectrum of scores these days

I usually judge how well something's going to do by how many comments it gets. If it gets around 80 then it'll probably do pretty well. If it gets 100 or more, there's a very good chance it'll get printed.

starr226, a good example of designs with $5 comments but got a flop score is any kennnnnnnnnn's (yes, that's 10 n's) designs.

kaloyster-- I new about kennnnnnnnnn before coming to the site- from his illustration site-- I was thinking about his smoking bird tshirt when I wrote this-- man- i loved that design.

gonna try to get some of my illustration fanatic/fine arts friends turned on to the site-- they would vote for kennnnnnnnn and it would right the horrible injustice in the world. sorry I'm babbling now.

kennnnn's a perfect example of what I'm saying of what I was saying above, sure. kennnn's also a perfect example of scores not mattering to people in the know. Ray is another.
if you can't look at kennnnn's stuff and see why the gross majority of people are going to vote it a 1, then you are not familiar at all with the average threadless voter.

jasper - ever since kennnnn got printed the first time there's been a hardcore blogger following for him. he's been printed three times. i'm not sure where the injustice is...the score?

I wouldn't worry too much about score. Anything over 2.0 seems printable, and a few that got under 2.0 have been printed too.

no need to scared! cos i realize, now a new trend for Threadless to print the designs with average scored lower then 2.5! even 2.0 with less then 50 comments! no point scored high + so many comments but in the end doesn’t print! i think some of the designs got high scored cos of the beautiful/pretty art & the high scored given for that matter and doesn’t mean the pretty/beautiful arts (designs) are suit for tee (some people think like that), maybe!!! just my opinion! :D

yea, its true, theres a bunch of bastards on the site that don't know any better, but give everyone zeros and themselves 5, thats if, they even have the guts to make a design

I am new here and have just voted on a few designs.
I do notice that I don't like most of what I see and
thus give zeros to most. But, I have been skipping
more too, rather than giving a zero. It is just my take
on the design - im not going to like 95 percent because
there is a great consistancy. The recent NYT Sunday
Magazine on this site suggested the style was like a
school of fish following a few lead fish. Going in a new
direction when the leaders did. I am from traditional pen
and ink and have a bias toward that...toward high contrast
line drawings.

Interesting site for sure. I will submit something soon.

Is there anything with political content? seems totally lacking.

Does the management frown on issue designs? Eco for example?

Nope not really on eco/ enviro designs
I dont zero any really except some that are not thought through, extremely offensive or realised well enough. (Nudity or boobies is fine by me). for eg a guy subbed one with Robert Mgabie as an aviator sunglass wearing "legend" I nearly threw up when I saw it he may as well have put Hitler up there. a big fat Zero

voters are cruel and unpredictable. the stuf fi like doesn't do well either, despite getting good responses. do you have any examples of designs you liked that didn't do well?

jasper7777, don't be discouraged by score, no. of comments and no. of voters. It is quite :( to read 'make-no-sense' comments but these will make you stronger... just put on a shield! I'm sure you enjoy the design process because your designs are well-though. Keep it up!
