I swear, if I see one more ninjas vs. pirates reference anywhere ever I just might gag to death. This stopped being even remotely funny like 8 years ago and I'm really not sure how anyone still finds this at all novel.

Whether or not you're into the concept, it's damn pretty to look at.

that's the idea. this is the end of all ninja vs pirates designs. everybody can stop now because it won't get any better.

Well yea sure it's drawn well but I wouldn't be getting my panties in a bunch over a t-shirt with an Austin Powers reference on it if Monet himself came back to life to paint it, and ninjas and pirates are about as fresh as "Yeah baby!"

Is this shirt supposed to be funny? I just assumed it was trying to make crap come out of my eyes and mouth from sheer shock of awesome bad-assedness this design exhibits. Also,

EPIC FAITH NO MORE EPIC!!!

well matt here it is:

after hanging around the threadless community for some time you see ninja and pirate designs being submitted every day it seems, just as with food with faces. you start to think to yourself, man this is ridiculous, look at the number of designs on this one subject, what is the fascination people have with these characters. I wonder what it would be like if the entire population of ninjas and pirates actually duked it out rather than a bunch kids just talking about why one is better than the other. And then a short while later after laboring over an intricate patchwork of human bodyparts and forms you create the epic battle you first saw in your mind. Suddenly you appreciate what everyone was so hung up about 8 yrs ago, it would be insanely cool to see hordes duke it out in a battle to the death. A true end to the debate, which is better... ninjas or pirates?

I just hope that my art lives up to what I attempted to depict.

it's like, some people can't get past the content; yeah, it's pirates and ninjas. and why can't they see the actual art, the actual message, the composition, etc...

i fear that people, at large, are growing more and more simple, and not in a good way. they see signs, and go from there. they could, see the sign, see what it's made of, what language it's in, where it's placed but that would take time, mind and patience. and our mcworld can't have it.

Are you guys serious? Our "McWorld" can't handle the awesomeness of this t-shirt with its deep meaning? I'm not really sure that I follow, because near as I can tell what this shirt signifies BEYOND the strictly aesthetic fact that it's ninjas and pirates is that it would be downright awesome to watch a bunch of people that don't even exist anymore slaughter each other?

I agree with ginetteginette, I mean the Threadless people created this clever system where they can get a good overview of public opinion about these designs, if every opinion expressed was a positive one, they'd get no useful information at all.

Beyond that, the designers can also use public opinion when planning designs, and hopefully they can use the criticism to design something new and original.

I'm not slamming this design, it's very well done, but the theme IS played out, and I don't understand why someone should get so much crap for pointing that out.

"This stopped being even remotely funny like 8 years ago ", said the guy who wears the tuxedo t-shirt. When did those START being even remotely funny?

true, not everyone likes all the same thing, nor do they dislike all the same things, but isn't mattiez666 putting people down for liking it? can't people then defend themselves for liking it? he's in total disbelief that anyone likes it. can't people be in total disbelief for his dislike of it?
