What's the most effective way to promote your design without pissing people off?

I used to send messages to people of facebook. But it starts to seem a bit selfish asking people you haven't talked to in months to vote for your design.

....

any ideas?
the threadless blogs are always inundated with vote for my design type postings.

i usually don't make fb wall posts, but i just made my status "$5!" with a link to my design up for running.

on threadless i just systematically bump one thread about my design everyday or whatevs

also i kind of like the "vote for my design" blogs because randomly going through and scoring = you have to deal with the mounds of shitty designs. i like having blogs that direct me to the good stuff. in fact, those blogs that are like "vote for these designs!" are really quite favorable to me.

yeah I try to bump my design once a day to keep it up there on the blogs in the hope a few people will see it.
Posting a blog about my design doesn't really work - I think this only really works for the well known people on here.

I'm not sure promoting here does much actually, besides making you feel like you're promoting it.

1. Make a great design, it will promote itself
2. Put it on emptees
3. Hope some outside fan site of whatever you've drawn sees it, likes it and sends people to it.

ask hookers to hold a sign for you. they're gonna be standing outside anyway
