about Green
The other one that comes to mind is that one with all the buildings on the globe and one tree, and the one with the legs and forest.

Because they are inoffensive, well executed and suit the medium they're designed for?

Is your profile photo of Jesse Lacey? Or is it of you and you just look like Jesse Lacey?

cuz people like it.

maybe you should ask yourself "Why do some people like different things than I like?" and to that I'd answer "cuz people like different things."

simple really.

Why don't they deserve those scores?
casemee
casemee on Feb 11 '08 at 5:06pm
Oh, and to give my opinion on your question... People seem to really like shirts dealing with nature. That's what I think?
pooner
pooner on Feb 11 '08 at 5:07pm
i didn't say they don't deserve them, just in relation to (in my opinion) more artistic, better designs they're unnecessarily high.

and yeah it's jesse in my avatar. i

I feel like Pooner is going to get attacked in this blog. Which isn't fair. It's not like the title is "Why do designs like this get such high scores... Because I think that they suck!!" And even if it did, so what, can't we all have our own opinions? I've come to notice that a lot of users on Threadless can be really, really mean. And I don't like it :(

I'm not attacking. Just wondered why the scores are unnecessarily high. Other than the forest and socks one (which is clever and faultlessly illustrated) they're not my cup of tee, but I can't doubt the quality of design.

Because it conveys a meaning that's universally applicable.

The more artistic ones, as you put it, often have more limited appeal. This kind of thing is like good pop music in that it appeals to a wide audience. Even if people don't love it, they'd be hard pressed to say they dislike it.

like that red moon replay one is pretty awesome, but it got an abysmal 2.27 good thing threadless had the good judgment to print it.

My guess is that some people find these designs more artistic and better than the ones you like.

because threadless people love trees

I think the majority of people on Threadless are more liberal (no offense to more conservative ppl, I myself am moderate) partially because the site definitely attracts the youth crowd, and a large issue for us is the environment.

Everything is going green. In part, it's fashionable to care about the environment, so people want to display this with pride.

I think Threadless designs that score best are the ones able to visually communicate information very succinctly (be it an idea, joke, pun, or concept). This designs achieves that, and also has a message that would probably appeal to a lot of voters.

As much as threadless is embracing radical designs more, it can never leave the audience it has built it's cred for. Also, this is still business. People come back to threadless because of designs like these which you can unlikely find anywhere else. That's what makes it threadless.

you say in relation to artistic better designs but (in my view) many of those which may well be better/more interesting/less conservative images aren't necessarily better t-shirts, and that's what we're rating them as.

i tend to prefer things in more subtle colours because that's what i'm going to wear. that's not true of the things i hang on my wall, but for a t-shirt it's important to me.

i like how no one really answered the original question of why this was printed on white.

i've asked myself this 5000 times already this week. but then i can't think of a better color.

this would also make one sick poster.

I think inoffensive pretty designs tend to score well because people are going to be wearing them as clothing, and we can't all go around wearing provocative messages on our shirts all the time. Most people have to conform somewhat just to get through their day. There are a lot of designs that I've really liked, but I know I'd never wear it.

That is a really-really high score--
and I do like it--
but I would have never guessed it would get that high of a score.
