Thank you for brighten up my day, mysterious person!
So, I put together a rudimentary tutorial for Holly, focusing on the technical side, i.e. using GIMP.
Positive and negative feedback is welcome :-) __________________________________________________________________ Note: This tutorial is based on Windows. If you're using Linux or a Mac, some steps might be slightly different (esp. the shortcuts). 1) Do you have the latest stable version of GIMP (at present, i.e. May 27th '08, that's 2.4.5) installed? If you're not sure, see "Help" – "About". If you got an older version, first of all download and install the latest one. 2) Open "\Threadless Tee Templates\threadless_tee_template.psd" and your file you created in GIMP (hopefully you saved it as a GIMP file, the extension should be "xcf"). ![]() 3) Now select the template file window and click on the eye of layer called "Information" in order to hide it. ![]() 4) Select your design window, press Ctrl+A (= mark the whole image), then Ctrl+C (= copy to clipboard). ![]() 5) Select the template file window and press Ctrl+V (= paste your design from the clipboard). ![]() 6) Now rightclick your pasted layer called "Floating Selection" and choose "New Layer..." from the dropdown menu. ![]() 7) You can e.g. scale the pasted layer with the scale tool to make it fit to the shirt, or whatever you want to do. ![]() 8) Now you can choose another shirt colour by making the respective layer visible. ![]() 9) The final step is to save the file as "xcf", that's the standard GIMP format. After that we save it over again as JPG/GIF/PNG for the submission form. Choose "File" – "Save As...", choose a file name, the extension (.jpg or .gif or .png) and a folder to save in, then click "Save" and on the next dialogue "Export". ![]() 10) Now mark "Show preview in image window" to see the result and also the estimated file size (has to be under 250kb). ![]() 11) We also need a small thumbnail (100x70 px and under 10kb). You can scale down the whole image to 100x100 and then crop it to 100x70 or – that's a better way – choose a smaller portion of your design, which is suitable for a catchy thumbnail. ![]() So, these are the very basic steps, addressing the problems Holly mentioned. Look at other subs to get a feeling what makes a good presentation... Good luck!
I badly want Raid's "Last Fairy on earth" from Bountee. But buying from Europe costs way more than from the US. So would anybody who lives in the US buy this shirt for me, specifying my address as the delivery address. And I'll pay you via Paypal just after you made the purchase!
That would be terriffic! :-) |
