it's fun, there's a limit to the games right now...but I expect them to continue to improve...also, don't play alone... you need friends to make the Wii the most fun it can be

I'm holding out on it. I know I'll probably end up buttcrushing zelda/super paper mario. and then it'll idle for like 4 months.

schleb is using the wifi thing...but I have a wireless routher
Torakamikaze

yeah... i dont have wireless and dont feel like dropping for one right now... so I was hoping the wifi thing was a good alternative, it sounds weird
iPear
iPear on Jul 10 '07 at 1:08am
wireless router is probably the way you should go with it, if you're not already, being as though it's only like 20 - 30 bucks more expensive, and if you ever get a laptop/other console, you're square.
iPear
iPear on Jul 10 '07 at 1:09am
I was gonna get a wifi adapter for my DS, because of ... Pokemans.

but I decided not to, because logically, a wireless router would just be smarter.

   Torakamikaze on Jul 10 '07 at 1:09am
yeah, my concern is that my computer is a pile of shit and im not sure how good the connection would be with the USB thingie... how much is your standard wireless router these days?

Brian yeah they did, the 60 gig is "only" $499 now.. but give it a couple weeks and they will be cheaper on ebay. And you can find good deals on them over at craigslist too.

i'm so psyched that they're making a galaxy wars for the wii. i played it once on 360 and i was totally mesmerized.

I have 3box. It's not bad. Although I still play halo 2 xbl more than anything else.

wow, just goes to show how little people want a ps3
iPear
iPear on Jul 10 '07 at 1:13am
PS3/360 is pretty much a must for this generation, but don't expect too many exclusives for the systems. Chances are everything that comes out for 360 is coming out for Ps3. and if you're going to get a wii, don't buy any games that have been ported from 360 or Ps3, because they're probably going to be gimmicky and less graphically ... wowful.

Wii is great for original games, but not multi-platform games. I'm pretty sure a wireless router is at least 80 bucks for a decent one, but you have to set it up and stuff and secure it, that might be hard...and possibly more expensive if you get someone else to do it for you. if you don't have like laptops or other systems, or you really don't care right now, you may as well just get an adapter since it's 40.00 and alot less hassle.

Halo 3 Beta was 3 weeks of bliss.
iPear
iPear on Jul 10 '07 at 1:15am
Personally, I prefer 360 though, because of the fact that I don't really care for buying extra stuff just to put my ps3 to full use, and ps3 seems to be more attractive to those who are... uhm... more casual I guess, and dont' really care about the nooks and crannies of it all. and 360, I can be sure to get in a flame war with a 13 year old on live, which is sweet.
robotjohn
robotjohn on Jul 10 '07 at 1:15am
oh and i already have a wireless router.
Torakamikaze
   Torakamikaze on Jul 10 '07 at 1:15am
that ipear.... what a helper. Yeah, i think i will just go the adapter route for now. Cause I dont have a laptop or anything.... and Im kinda lacking in funds at the moment. And of course the convenience factor is always a plus
tracerbullet
   tracerbullet on Jul 10 '07 at 1:16am
our wireless router was only 30 or 40 bucks, i think, and it works just fine
devilchicken
devilchicken on Jul 10 '07 at 1:16am
Yeah, if sony shows some good games for the ps3 this week at e3 ill probably get one. It would be cheaper than a 360 anyway, because id have to get a wireless adapter ($90) and then 1yr of Live ($50)
I don't think we'll see that many exclusives this generation, except for first party titles.
devilchicken
devilchicken on Jul 10 '07 at 1:19am
ipear what do you mean extra stuff to put the ps3 to full use?
and i dont know about the casual comment, the wii seems far more casual than either the 360 of a ps3.
I totally agree with you on the flamewar with a 13 yr old retard though.
iPear
iPear on Jul 10 '07 at 1:19am
exclusives were basically what sold systems last generation. this generation, it's the hardware. Brian, I think like 360/ps3 works better with like a higher .. distance? frequency? a router that has more of a signal. but since DS/Wii works over wifi, it's... not .. uh. I don't know, technical stuff.
iPear
iPear on Jul 10 '07 at 1:23am
like, if you want to use a ps3 properly, you basically have to have a TV that's been released within the latter part of the last 3 years, and even with that, you have to buy certain wires that they don't include in it. You have to buy some cracker jack bull just to be able to use your memory card from your ps2 on there, and it acts a foo' if you try backwards compatibility.

the reason why I say ps3 is more for casual gamers is becasue the major gaming audience in recent years are people who don't really care about the hardware and all that crap, they're never going to pick up a final fantasy game or a metal gear game or even like tetris, they just play Madden or Fifa or some other generic EA sports owned sports/racing game. PS3 and PSP are basically what they think is the best.
tracerbullet
   tracerbullet on Jul 10 '07 at 1:24am
oh, i don't know about that. all i know is we have our router way upstairs and my wii picks up the signal fine way downstairs.

i hope there's some good stuff at e3 this year, even though the format of the show is all changed and stuff.

wii is definitely more family-friendly, though. it's a lot easier to get accustomed to for someone who's never played a video game. even my grandfather tried Wii Sports golf without a problem (though he didn't really enjoy it because he plays real golf). my uncle loved tennis, though.
Torakamikaze
   Torakamikaze on Jul 10 '07 at 1:27am
heh, yeah I played wii sports with my parents on the weekend... they enjoyed it
devilchicken
devilchicken on Jul 10 '07 at 1:30am
You can use your ps3 n regular SDTV without any problems, same as the 360.. they will both look like ass, but hey, you can still use them.
Ps3 doesnt include the HDMI cable, but you can use composite cables if you want to, or if your tv doesnt have an HDMI input.

Agreed, the memory card thing is a pain in the ass.
Backwards compatibility is as good (or bad) in both systems id dare say. Sony hasn't gone sofware-only emulation yet, but they wll once they take the emotion engine out of the ps3 on future models. They already did as much in Europe.

And i dont know about your casual gaming point yet. Because if gamers thought the psp and the ps3 were the best, they wouldnt be getting clobbered by the DS and the wii, respectively.

iPear on Jul 10 '07 at 1:35am
casual might not have been the right word.

stereotypical might have worked better.

MIGHT.

might have.

Basically, what I was trying to say is, a large portion of the gaming community consists of people who just play generic sports/racing games.
