New Shirt Spoilers 05/19/08

I just got back from the Threadless store and was pretty shocked. Almost all the prints displayed in the window were for designs currently being voted on (with the exception of As Day is Swallowed Up By Night which only finished eight days ago).

Has this ever happened before??

While I was happy to see some deserving designs get printed, I can't help wondering if this somehow contravenes the rules and regulations of an online contest (I don't know, I'm not a lawyer). I also wonder how they managed to pull it off!

well, I guess I could submit The Great Discovery... but if the rumors are true that Threadless might be producing prints, then i'm not sure what to do about Helium Menagerie since Yay Art states in their rules that a submission can't be for another site that directly competes with prints.

I think you'll be alright: it says "You are free to use your work in any way as long as the use does not compete with the physical YayArt prints", so it's the use of the image, rather than the vendor. Though you might prefer to hold out and see if threadless wants to make you a poster!

hmm... I took that to mean that the product made with your image couldn't be a print or poster which would be in direct competition.

Maybe I'll just pretend you're my lawyer and go ahead and submit it. :P

I'm pretty sure t-shirts wouldn't be considered competition. I'm sure they'd have said so for wotto's design, as the fact it's a tee was in the title. Maybe one of us should check...?

I was just thinking that if Threadless started to produce prints in the near future that it would be a possible conflict since Threadless would always have the option (I assume) to make a print of The Helium Menagerie.
