• I'll grant that this one might be 'tuff to get'. However, that was not my intention here. My original info re: 'The Bear State', derived from an entry in a 'Vintage' edition of the Webster Dictionary, apparently the 'nick-name' didn't endure beyond 1920-30 or thereabouts.
