Import Taxes Suck!

So after a month of waiting for my shirts, it finally arrived today. Instead of simply handing them the slip and receiving my package I have to pay Import taxes. The value of the shirts is $150 and I now have to pay $94 simply for bringing it into my country! (That's 63% of the value) This sucks. I don't have the cash and included in the package are Christmas gifts for 5 people. Now I have to wait until I can find a way to pay the amount. Import taxes suck.

That is pretty terrible. Don't they tell you what the taxes will be when you are ordering?

D : awwmuhgaw! I heard that they were rough, but 63%? Oucha. Threadless needs to open some foreign production facilities.

Shipping was $40 for 14 shirts. So that's $134.

Hey Buddy, congrats with the T, I heard through the grapevine that u won a t-shirt comp but didn't know that it was threadless.
I can see that u've put alot of time and effort into your designs as usual....I'm gona have to do that, been seriously demotivated recently....but that will all change soon....nice to see u here...OH and YES IMPORT TAXES SUCK.....

They do suck.

I don't understand why I have to pay an £8 handling fee for unpaid items, when that's the first chance I get to pay it. Sure, if it was something I'd refused to pay or was sneaky about, but there isn't the option to pay it before hand, so it's not *really* unpaid :S

Order in smaller batches and you will drastically reduce/eliminate customs fees. You'll pay more postage, but it'll still be a big saving

jomo0 - sometimes if you order a smaller amount of tshirts they slip through without having to pay customs, or it is a smaller amount. but 60something% is the norm for importing clothes to south africa.
