about Spoilt
I don't really see the point of this shirt. Wait, I see it exactly. It's for attention-whoring people who consider consider people's "outrage" as their own entertainment because they feel as though they are "creating controversy" and "stirring up the world." No, in fact, you are ruining some well-told stories through the art of film for complete strangers.

I can already predict some people's line of thinking. "Oh, you take entertainment too seriously." "These are already popular movies, so you probably knew all of it anyway." "I just love the idea of pissing people off." Is that how attention-starved you are? That you would soil entertainment for other people just to rile them?

Come on! If that is how you want to bother people and make a stand or whatever the hell you are doing, why do it in such a passive-aggressive way and buy a shirt that spoils endings to movies? No political message, no human rights message, just ruin some movies.

"But people who get angry about this will be awakened to the value that they place on entertainment." Oh, screw that noise. You bought this shirt on threadless, expensive, high-fashion shirts that require you to vote for hours on stylized robots with spatter effects behind them placed cleverly in the bottom corner of the shirt. I think we know your value on entertainment.

It bothers me because some of the films are good movies and the shock value is like that guy in the theatre who shouts "BOO!" at a high tension point in a movie: You are leeching attention and power from someone who worked infinitely harder to create it. While I'm personally not bothered that someone ruined The Wicker Man, I know that there would be a hell of a lot of angry pretentious folk if the shirt read the following literature spoilers: Note: I had a list of spoilers from famous novels here, but I only planned to have it up long enough to see if people were OUTRAGED that I would do that. According to the comments, they absolutely were. Now that the point is made that spoilers are relative to the audience and you shouldn't judge what people will be affected by, I took them down because the Threadless community told me that they don't want THOSE up there. Whoa! Apparently none of them are film majors.

And by the way, some of you need to look up the (internet) definition of "Troll." This shirt is more of a troll than I am.

seriously. it's just a shirt.

"stick with the argument... or i won't respond to you"

- exactly what is there to argue about?

1. you don't like the shirt.

2. obviously, a lot of other people liked it enough that it got selected.

THE END.

i was kind of annoyed when i saw it too, but that was about two months ago.

so i suppose i'm slightly defective in some way, since i'm incapable of holding a grudge on a SHIRT for over 60 days.

perhaps i just don't have the necessary vitality of life to care about the world, and horribly important things in life such as a SHIRT.

because ranting on for two months about a shirt is so much more important than, "political messages" and "human rights," for example.

thank you so much, mrwesticles.

and i'm not being sarcastic here. i just want you to know that i have finally found the meaning of life, due to this blog. really.

i must now go make some of my own blogs about shirts i hate, to create fulfillment for my soul.

i'll have to stop holding political rallies and fighting for human rights to make the time for this, but that's ok.

because shirts...

are now my world.

It is pretty funny that people got mad at him for having spoilers to books...
MooseDinner
MooseDinner on Nov 01 '07 at 6:37pm
This is juvenile. You are doing exactly what you claim to be so opposing. And the argument is poor anyway, because most people who watch movies have already seen all of those. Even for those who haven't, how many people are really upset for more than a minute or two by hearing/reading a movie spoiler? It's not a big deal.

Aside from that, art is supposed to stir things up and make people think. If you truly believe that people (other than yourself) are outraged by a shirt, that's not really a bad thing.

Checking in with my opinion here. I was casually browsing shirts today and came across this one. I've bought a lot of shirts here, both for me and my daughter. I honestly thought I'd seen them all.

This design is the first one to ever make me angry. Why? Because my boyfriend recently got me started with the Harry Potter books, and I'm a bit over halfway through the series. Since the last book has been out less than a year, I do think it's rude to spoil it for all the people who just started reading the series, or people like me who can't read very long without everything getting blurry.

I don't have a super-long attention span for things I've already seen or heard. School and church were so boring because it was the same thing, over and over (so I've given up both). I only watch movies more than once if I'm confused or the plot is complex (Donnie Darko, Memento and Primer), or if the surpise ending was significant enough to make me want to go back and look for clues earlier in the movie (Sixth Sense, The Usual Suspects).

I will probably not bother reading the last 3 books of the HP series, simply because of this shirt. I had managed, up until now, to avoid any situations where someone might reveal the end to me. My boyfriend hasn't been allowed to discuss the book in my presence.

I am a very busy person, and I don't have the time to expend in finishing a 7-book series where the ending has been ruined. I was very very fond of Dumbledore and while I knew somebody important was going to die, I didn't really want to know who. I take books very seriously.

On the bright side... at least now I can keep slogging through "Devil in the White City". I already know what happens at the end of that one :)

BTW, I'm a huge movie fan as well. I'd already seen all the movies on the shirt, so that was no big deal (to me). I think "Fight Club" could stand on its own, but I'm not sure "Sixth Sense" or "The Usual Suspects" would be such great movies if you knew how they ended before the FIRST viewing.

Sorry for the long post.

This reminds me of a friend who once encountered a guy(mid 30s) who didn't know anakin became vader cause he somehow had never seen, or even heard about the original trilogy. Granted the guy was an professional marathon runner, but not hearing about star wars for 20yrs? crazy.

Uh...thinking back to the countless times I've worn this shirt, and the fact that not a single person has gotten mad at me or showed the slightest bit of irritation...I don't see your point.

In fact, people think it's really interesting, and they like to guess which spoiler comes from which movie.

Maybe you just live in a really high-strung place with tons of bitchy people. I don't know. But at least where I am, people don't get pissed off because of shirts.

I'm on the fence with this shirt. I'm someone who hates spoilers, like, I think when a movie/book is spoiled for me, I don't get the experience that the author intended. Its just not the same knowing the ending. But, that being said, this shirt isn't as bad as it could be. Its not like it has the movie names, and then spoilers right next to it.

I tried to avoid reading most of the posts in here, just because of the literary spoilers (knowing the ending to a book I need to read in school makes me not want to continue reading). But I don't think this shirt is that bad, but it is a bit annoying.

I dont really get how it would ruin anything for anyone. I mean, all of the good movies on this shirt I have already seen. And the movies I havent seen suck..thats why I never watched them. So why would I care what the ending is?

At first I thought this was a pretty cool shirt, because it looks cool. But, you made some good points. It isn't cool to spoil movies, or books, for people. Personally, I would have gotten pissed off if I read this shirt and I hadn't read HP 6 yet, Snape Kills Dumbledore. Though, I don't really care much about the others.

You have to admit though, it wasn't cool of you to post a bunch of spoilers for a bunch of books. That does make you a hypocrite and probably pisses even more people off because I'm sure a majority of people on threadless care more about books than movies, at least I do. Not everyone reading your post wanted to buy the shirt, or thought it was a good design.

I watched Fight Club the other day, knowing the ending (a friend told me) and to be honest, I thought it was too long and boring, if I hadn't have known the ending then sitting through it would have been worth while. Then again I don't really see what the hype was about for "To kill a mocking bird" so maybe the whole movie would have been wasted on me weither or not I knew the ending.

On the other hand, because of this shirt I'm going to check out the movies I haven't seen.
