about Spoilt
I don't really see the point of this shirt. Wait, I see it exactly. It's for attention-whoring people who consider consider people's "outrage" as their own entertainment because they feel as though they are "creating controversy" and "stirring up the world." No, in fact, you are ruining some well-told stories through the art of film for complete strangers.

I can already predict some people's line of thinking. "Oh, you take entertainment too seriously." "These are already popular movies, so you probably knew all of it anyway." "I just love the idea of pissing people off." Is that how attention-starved you are? That you would soil entertainment for other people just to rile them?

Come on! If that is how you want to bother people and make a stand or whatever the hell you are doing, why do it in such a passive-aggressive way and buy a shirt that spoils endings to movies? No political message, no human rights message, just ruin some movies.

"But people who get angry about this will be awakened to the value that they place on entertainment." Oh, screw that noise. You bought this shirt on threadless, expensive, high-fashion shirts that require you to vote for hours on stylized robots with spatter effects behind them placed cleverly in the bottom corner of the shirt. I think we know your value on entertainment.

It bothers me because some of the films are good movies and the shock value is like that guy in the theatre who shouts "BOO!" at a high tension point in a movie: You are leeching attention and power from someone who worked infinitely harder to create it. While I'm personally not bothered that someone ruined The Wicker Man, I know that there would be a hell of a lot of angry pretentious folk if the shirt read the following literature spoilers: Note: I had a list of spoilers from famous novels here, but I only planned to have it up long enough to see if people were OUTRAGED that I would do that. According to the comments, they absolutely were. Now that the point is made that spoilers are relative to the audience and you shouldn't judge what people will be affected by, I took them down because the Threadless community told me that they don't want THOSE up there. Whoa! Apparently none of them are film majors.

And by the way, some of you need to look up the (internet) definition of "Troll." This shirt is more of a troll than I am.

Garp Dies, Ice-9 ends the world, Montag kills his captain after reading books, only Ishmael lives, Ender killed the buggers in the games he was playing, Gandolf had the ring of fire and comes back, The Young Soldier lives, Raskolnikov confesses, Piggy dies, Yossarian leaves the army and survives while nearly all of his friends die, Holden goes to a sanitarium and feels better, Alex becomes a Clockwork Orange after getting over his youthfulness, Jurgis becomes a socialist, Huck safely returns and Jim was a free man the whole time, Sophie is the descendant of Jesus and Mary M. while Langdon goes to find the Holy Grail, Don Quixote's complete disillusionment leads to his death, Meursault is executed and hopes for cheers, and finally, Grey dies after murdering people, the giving tree gets cut down, Okonkwo kills his son and hangs himself, the tripods are destroyed, Narnia ends but everyone goes to Heaven, and finally, Jesus comes back after three days."

This is why you are crap... you just did what you despise...hypocrite... you will now be stoned to death

is this a joke? Cause, you just listed a ton of spoilers here.... after being outraged for a shirt with just a few... I hope I'm missing the part in this blog where it reads "this is a joke"

"You bought this shirt on threadless, expensive, high-fashion shirts that require you to vote for hours on stylized robots with spatter effects behind them placed cleverly in the bottom corner of the shirt. I think we know your value on entertainment."

Why the hell do you visit the website? Let alone join up and leave a massive message about a t-shirt that you don't have to look at and don't have to buy.

You know what the point of the joke is? It's not an attempt to get attention; it's not vindictive; it's just FUNNY. And well-designed.

And your massively hypocritical little rant would have spoiled a few books for me if I hadn't read most of them already.

Seriously - get a life. If you're so concerned with human rights and politics, why don't you channel this absurdly misplaced rage into those areas?
mrwesticles

now you are angry, yet you defend the shirt? That was my point entirely.
mrwesticles
mrwesticles on May 21 '07 at 12:15pm
Yes! Attack, my picture, and then you'll probably attack my slogans, designs, call me a hypocrite for making a valid point, yet not address the argument or defend the shirt! Hooray!

Funny. I read this rant about spoilers at exactly the same time as Troy McLure spoiled the ending of Planet of the Apes.

"Oh my God, I was wrong! It was Earth, all along...

You finally made a monkey out of meeee!"

13strong, your fury illustrates my point. You attack my spoilers because I used them to draw hollow attention to myself by taking advantage of great thinkers' and artists' work. Hey, I can think of a certain shirt that does that too.
mrwesticles
mrwesticles on May 21 '07 at 12:30pm

I agree. And I take issue with the not-necessarily correct Usual Suspects spoiler. People infer that Verbal is Keyser Soze, but it's never really said. Watch it again. We only know that Verbal conned the police & that Keyser is a larger-than-life myth.

This shirt is uninspired and lazy, in my opinion.

"FURY" "stupid" "childishness" "idiots on the web"

oh, and with shipping it's at least $19 a shirt. not terribly expensive, especially for the type of print, but it's still considered an art print. Doesn't really justify a wall of text on a shirt with a bunch of easliy downloaded fonts. Also, burlap chafes me so.

mrwesticles

look, 13strong, i do have to look at the shirt is I want to buy shirts here because that's how you browse. I don't have magical spider-sense to know which shirts I want. Two, I think this is a good website with good ideas and a way of execution, but I'm going to blow the whistle on what I think is crap, which is why i'm signed up, three, "it's just FUNNY," is your argument for the shirt's existence. Why is it funny? "Apples are FUNNY" doesn't leave much to talk about. It is well-designed but the content is still no good, which is my point. I made no comment on the actual design because it does indeed flow well. Also, calling me a hypocrite and telling me I shot myself in the foot by entertaining people. I'm not against entertaining people. I'm against weakening the impact of someone else's work for your own gain.

Now stop flaming and realize that not all people have been wanking off to this shirt since its original submission. Stick with the argument and leave the insults out of this or I won't respond to you.
