gallery phto quality

Ok, so I'm trying to upload my first gallery picture. I have a really nice picture, and it's very sharp and I sized it perfectly and everything. The quality/resolution of the picture is pretty good.

But when I upload it and preview it, the quality goes way down. It's not as sharp and the colors aren't as nice, and it's not close to as nice as the file I upload.

Is there any way to format the file so that when I upload it, it stays the same quality? The picture is edited to exactly 380x272 already, and I've tried .jpg and .png.

I don't have very much experience dealing with picture quality/formats....can anyone help me?

The photos are lower in quality when they are uploaded, probably so it takes up less space?

i suppose threadless degrades the quality because of the amount of photos they host.

if you have a "save for web" option, that may be your best bet for best quality..then, you can preview how much degradation is going into your photo beforehand and can tweak things.

I got it to work better, finally...if i uploaded it as a .png file, it worked muchhhh better and didn't diminish the quality. I have no idea what that format is normally used for, but i just tried it on a whim and it worked!

You can see it, it's me wearing The Outdoor Mix. I thought it was a sweet picture...no product page though :(...do anyones pictures actually get put on the product pages? it seems to be the same people in a lot of them.

Wow, you weren't kidding - that makes a huge difference in quality.

I've never had a pic make the product page, but I know other people who have.

I think most of them are just the staff people, and if they get really [really really] good ones from regular threadless people, they put those up.
