all cyclops must in deed pay tribute to futurama

especially the original mythological creature from which the chick in that 'toon was based on.

There was a Futurama episode where Fry and Leela were in a 3-D movie theatre, and Leela said her 3D glasses weren't working, while trying to line them up properly with her one eye. I think that's why the Futurama? reference. Unless, of course, there are stories of the trials and tribulations the original cyclops experienced at 3D movies.
