I had kind of stopped buying Threadless T's because I couldn't justify the wasteful transporting of a t-shirt from Pakistan (the factory's in Pakistan, yeah?) to the USA, and then from the USA to the UK.

That said, I'm a minor hypocrite, cos I had to have this one.

It just seems to fit the world, and especially this country, right now.

Economic crisis, oil about to run out, no real political choice, climate change coming, the possibility of a Conservative government...

And Douglas Adams isn't here to tell us "DON'T PANIC".

This just seems to fit.

So thanks Mr Moss, for neatly summing up our modern times. You're welcome to visit me in my self-sustaining mountain-top shack any time.

unfortunately, in the era of globalization, getting genuinely local goods is near impossible. Not even the vaunted American Apparel gets their cotton locally (Los Angeles). The best you can normally hope in the US/Canada for is a garment sewn in Mexico from US cotton but alas, the VAST majority of all clothes are made in Vietnam, Malaysia, or China. It's just how the global factory system has worked out these days. :/

I agree the odds are stacked against locally sourced products/produce, but

a) if you REALLY care it would be possible to locally source your clothes and other such things. You would have to work pretty hard at it, though.

b) the market is likely going to go that way anyway, as oil becomes prohibitively expensive/unavailable and importing (particularly to places like the UK where I am) becomes impossible. We'll have to start relying on local produce and industry.

Should be interesting.

The possibility of liberals taking over our government scares me even more.

Agreed, Katie. Tomorrow we have to hang together or hang alone.

Hell yeah. I too am tempted by this shirt.

13strong, dude, I have missed you.

Oh, and don't you know, it's like Ann Coulter says: "Liberals always lie". Liberals are the evil folk keeping the rich white man down. And you can always trust Ann Coulter.

Yeah, man, those rich white people have experienced hundreds of years of toil and struggle. I mean, it's hard work oppressing people and domesticating the savages! Some of the rich white people got blisters on their hands from their guns/whips/sticks/piles of money.

This poor non-white non-heterosexual tyranny must come to an end!

And so on...

In Britain in WW2 there was a government produced poster, designed for times of dire emergency (Nazi invasion, etc) that had the crown at the top and read:

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON.

It's a very famous, iconic design that has become quite cool and fashionable recently.

I like to think this is a more appropriate message for our times.
