I reckon the eyes belong to the creatures that are about to munch on the foolish boy and his monster. My husband disagrees and thinks they are just fireflies.

there are some multicolored leaves, but no eyes that I can see.

I thought they kinda looked like eyes at first. But when I investigated further, they definitely seemed like leaves.
