SUP! Um I'm not even sure if yuor online anymore. I finished my Design degree at Poly last year. I'm now applying for jobs left right and centre (but never behind) I haven't bought tickets yet but I need to soon, I get the feeling this will sell out fast. When do they actually get here? Oh and they are AWESOME don't let anyone tell you different.

thats so excellent! I just went to the Polytech's open night. Im planning on doing their design bachelor-y thingy and then possibly the photography diploma after that.
how did you find it there? are you a designer? im not at all im more normal artist (photog, printmaking, painting etc) im not interested in design at all..which worries me abit. but plytech sounds ten billion times (scientifically proven) better than fine arts.

the shins get here um.... its the 30th of july. my 18th is on the 23rd so it is the best birthday present ever! did you see them last time they were here?

I studied at Waikato Uni, just after the Graphics degree started up. I'm just doing freelance stuff at the moment. Last year I worked at The Waikato Times for a few months but I quit, coa it was really boring.

I kinda do nothing at the moment, too lazy to even get myself on unemployment.

Looked up the import duties before I started ordering here.
Currently clothing/apparel tax is at 17% or 15% (it's being reduced by ~2% a year and will be 0 in 2015 or something).

It gets added to GST to be 29.5%. But they only collect if the tax amount is over $50.

So $50 x 100/29.5 = max of NZ$169 before they tariff your ass.

Anyone know if my calculations are correct?, my biggest order so far has been $98.

@Yautja, i'm moving to wellington soon, you'll have to help me find a place and then we can both go on the dole together! Should be fun. Hopfully though I move up there with a job.

@Lorna, lols at Rolleston, what is that place anyway? If mutant Zombies where ever going to attack NZ that's where they would begin breading first I think.

one of the photog guys asked me to bring in some of my best photos one day soon and im so scared...he was intimidating, and ive never had my art judged as actual art, its all just 'will this get you a good ncea mark?'
i dont know which ones to show him because i dont know what good art photos look like! im all doubty :(

Sup Lorna. I think that we should agree never to actually be online at the same time from now on, it's much less confusing :)

CPIT is pretty damn good, the tutors are top notch and the courses are well designed for us students rather than art critics or whatever! Are you thinking of going there or are you somewhere else OR WHAT! TELL ME!

Who are you going to see at Tech? Is his name Keith?

yeah tobasco im really keen to go to cpit. i was worried about it being very design-orientated but on the open night it looked as if non-designers were just as accepted there. Im not very keen on Fine Arts, it just doesnt seem all that interesting, but i think i will still go to the open day and probably send in an application so i have a backup if i dont get into cpit.

The guys name is John Maillard he isnt from the diploma of a&d he is the head guy in the professional photography course.

Oh dude, you gots to do the visual arts course then Lorna! The tutors are the best and the students are cool (from my experience anyway) AND you'll have my mum as an Art History teacher possibly! It was weird having her as a teacher but then I got over it cause she never failed me (this could be because of my massive intelect but I doubt it).

You should apply to both, I applied to Massey and CPIT and got into both but in the end went for close to home. I'm glad too cause Massey had some bad feedback from students that came to poly halfway through the year.

Yeah, in your first year everyone pretty much does mostly the same stuff. Vis Arts (a cool way to say Visual Art Students!) probably won't do as much digital classes but you'll still have a little time on the computer and other graphicy things like that. You'l be in your separate streams and we never did combined classes except for the first semester lectures in Art History, after the first semester of each year they break you up again to do more specialised study. Art History is compulory over all three years, it wouldn't be a degree with out it. But you could cross credit with other written papers such as English or Maori History. And philosophy will get you those credits too I think.

@ Angelito, I know how that is. I can't sleep on planes. I get WAY too excited so I end up watching all the crappy movies and then bugging my next door neighbour for most of the time, I think a book of Sudoku though would calm me down now. It's a pure joy to play that!
