do people think we will be taken over or consumed by techonology??? do you think we will lose our essence? I wonder how much longer we will not live a reciprocal life with our world.

It really depends on when you draw the line of being consumed. If you want to draw a super-fine literal line like - Are the robots going to rebel and kill us all? - I'll have to go with no. But by many definitions, someone could pretty well argue we've already been "taken over" by technology. Hard to say. That's my cop-out answer.

Define technology, essence and reciprocal life, please.

taking from the land and giving back, eating and growing food.
that one example

We don't live a reciprocal life with our world as it is. We take resources from the planet and return pollution and destruction, but the planet as a whole is incredibly difficult to harm. Rocks with diameters of miles across have hit the Earth, darkening its skies and burning its surface, and it came back. Whatever we do to it, the world will survive and recover. The question is, will it be a world in which we can or will want to survive? Nobody knows that - I think it depends on us being able to either control our populations or develop the technology to not rely on the planet - basically to live and grow food either in space or on another planet. And that's a LONG way off.

I think we are already in the irreversible process of killing ourselves partly due to technology, but that is just me.
ianrose
ianrose on Mar 12 '07 at 11:46pm
I really don't think its irreversible at this point. We're really, really smart. Mostly we do stupid things with it, but we have immense abilities to fix the problems we cause - its just a question of whether we want to.

Yeah, but the majority of us DON'T want to. Because you said it yourself, as a group humans are STUPID.
ianrose
ianrose on Mar 12 '07 at 11:50pm
What I said is that humans as a group do stupid things. Compared to anything else we know about, we're outstandingly smart. I don't disagree with you in general - we're probably fucked - but we are clever.

I tried to write something thoughtful but it fizzled.

I'll just say no and no. Historically, everything gets better.

hey me too!

we are consumed by/with technology right now. but, i'd like to think that all things return to their beginnings; a full circle kinda thing.
we've been consuming more than producing for some time now and when the earth's had enough, it'll snap back

there is sopouse to be a nano parasite that will eat away sickness, but unfortunatley it ends up eating everything, its some sort of a nano end of the world theory. its intention maybe was to eat up the oil from oil spills in the water. its wierd
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Mar 13 '07 at 4:48pm
from the globe on down to invisible parasites, we're all making a living off something else.
what happens when there's nothing else?
...stay tuned
