Lately I've been thinking I should probably set myself up with a nice little portfolio site, but need to save money for this semester coming up. Anyone know of any good, free web hosting? Or some kind of alternative?

Actually I just joined that recently. Didn't look too far into it though. Thanks for the reminder.

I've seen decent portfolios on Blogspot accounts, the artists just dedicated a post per piece of art.

It wasn't sectioned very well because of it, but it was interesting to have that format to entice the viewer to read about each piece.

I use moonfruit dot com, free tools to build your site and free hosting if you let them put ads on your page. I pay about $30 a year to have no ads and a little more storage.

Besides graphics design, you should also focus on a key aspect of it like web or even apparel design. Maybe even some industrial design classes before you finish up school. It'll give you a lot more avenues to pursue and I highly recommend it.

Another possibility, as you are a great illustrator, is to take some 3D classes for the gaming industry or even the movie industry. It's more likely that you'll be making a lot more in a shorter time as that industry is huge and Sony as well as other studio are always hiring. It seems to be very cut throat though.

Just my 2 cents but maybe you already have something lined up.

Either way, I agree that you should have a portfolio site and just be able to send someone a link with samples of your work. In the end, a degree does matter but it really doesn't because the work you do is the most important thing in our industry. A lot of companies do like to see that you have an education under your belt though.

I think I pretty much narrowed it down to apparel or the gaming categories. Most likely apparel. I'm working for my degree right now, trying to transfer to San Jose State. I'll definintely check out Coroflot. Thanks guys
