I love the new 'Skinny Stats' on each finished submission - very interesting. What has really surprised and shocked me is the amount of people that scored my designs with a zero. While I don't think my Music Business design is the best t-shirt graphic the world has ever seen I was really suprised to see that 148 people have it a big fat zero.
For me to give a sub a zero it has to be TRULY awful - so I guess I was just a bit shocked that's all!

i'm not too concerned about 0-voters. apparently they just can't be pleased. :-p

I like them too. especially getting to see the # of I'd Buys. It can be confusing when you get a good score but it doesn't get printed. now i can look at the stats and say "ooooh, that's why." :)

well, there are many reasons why people would give others zeros:

*Trolls give zeros to everyone.
*The Bitter give zeros to most successful designers
*Haters target certain great designers or very successful subs.
*Sub is stolen
*Sub sucks beyond repair
*Sub is blasphemous, racist, sexist, homophobic or whatever other prejudice.
*Random zero just for fun or pure evil.

A lot of people score each design either a 0 or a 5, and don't use any of the numbers in between. They reason it as either it makes a good shirt (5) or it doesn't (0) and score accordingly. I personally don't like that scoring method; it implies that the design itself sucks, even if it's just scored poorly because it doesn't fit the tee shirt medium very well.

Wow, maybe I'm naive - I had no idea that people would try and run designs down like that

My heart was broken at the realization that so many zeros are given out so easily. I was so innocent! I had NO IDEA!!

Ha ha! I'm serious! It's the thought that that kind of politics happens here that makes me not want to sub
Montro
   Montro on Jan 28 '11 at 8:37am
I've found that it is a pretty common attitude in general life. A burglar will try to burn your house if he can't get into it. The neighbor will cut his fruit tree branches if some grow over the fence (sometimes the whole tree) just so you can't have a couple. In this case, people will zero you if they can't get a good score themselves.

brockrumer on Jan 28 '11 at 8:49am
Statistically speaking, the zeros don't have a significant impact on average score, but on an individual sub they sometimes can. That's why we have the 'no zeros' average.

And Montro, you are right. I've had someone break my car radio 2X when they realized the face wasn't in the car. Really?

I was well amused by the 483 zeros Biggie Was Right got.

I only really zero stolen art. If it's original, even if it's utter pish, it still deserves a 1 for getting it onto the website. Although looking back at some scores I've given I have no idea what was going through my head for a few of them.

I guess that's what I mean Tonteau - I suspected that some people try and shoot down REALLY popular/contentious subs - but I had no idea that so many people score zero with such regularity. I, like you, almost always gave a minimum score of 1 or 2.

Yeah, I don't get the whole voting things down idea, but the internet is full of strange and bitter individuals. I think threadless is best placed to understand all this and they can probably rectify any voting anomalies.

The skinny stats don't display when we're viewing "Quick Scores". Any plans to fix/add that?
FRICKINAWESOME
   FRICKINAWESOME on Jan 28 '11 at 9:20am
Like Squints said, everyone's so surprised by all the zeroes but not realizing how many lame voters just 0 or 5 a design.

Hence why myself and many others have suggested that Threadless has a screen you automatically go to before your first five times voting on the site that shows the voting scale and what all the numbers mean so there's an agreed-upon way to use the system to its fullest. I know a bunch of people still won't follow that, but I think it would shape up a few

Also, the no zeroes score would probably be more accurate if all the zeroes were shifted over to a 1 after voting is done.

Tonts, in the slogan world we would constantly have people just run through our entire slogan pages and just hit no all the way down to everything like they were a kid running into an elevator and sliding down all the buttons. Like you said, strange motherfuckers on the web, lol.

I just can't believe how many people "0" shit. I assume its the people who submit and think if they "0" everyone else, they'll do better. sheesh. I love that its private, and it makes me excited to see how many people actually liked some of my designs, excluding 0's.

No Zeros is what you get if no one had scored a zero, right? What does the Wheighted and No sex numbers represent? I don't get that.
Resistance
   Resistance on Feb 08 '11 at 12:06pm
Weighted is an old number they don't really use anymore. It took into consideration community involvement, purchases, etc.

No zero removes the zeros and gives the average from all the scores 1-5.

No sex are all the people who haven't filled out their profile to designate if they are Male, Female, or Caribou

I always vote at least a 1 for every design I score. I figured if you took the time to follow the instructions to submit to Threadless, you deserve something.

Caribous hate my work. They always score me lower.

I don't mind the zeroes. I actually find it kind of fun how for each and every single thing I ever subbed, forty people bothered to run past it and give it a zero. Since it's such a constant number for me I like to imagine them as the same group of people, like some band of disheveled harridans running through the powerscore like banshees screaming 'ZEROOOOO! ZEEEROOOOOOO!' :)

Nothing unless it is stolen art deserves a zero. As time and effort has been put into it. If it is worth a zero then it shouldn't really have been accepted.

   celandinestern on Feb 08 '11 at 6:01pm
I dunno. That's a nice sentiment, but have you seen some of the stuff over in the omg lol wtf blog? Some stuff really does deserve a zero.

Not much of it, though.

People have the right to vote down subs if they wish. In the past we had some problems with one person voting down a single design. Creating fake accounts which is somewhat common. We also had some problems where folks could record several votes before our servers could record the data. Long story short we fixed both of these problems. JayKing we keep a close eye on voting since it is the biggest part of our site

Yeah getting 0's sucks, luckily I got more 5's than 0's on my first sub and that was enough to make me chipper. But, Threadless knows 0's don't mean much, thats why they use other metrics in their selection process. Also I agree with Frickinawesome, there should be a scoring rubric presented to new threadless members.

excuse my ignorance but the weighted score is the total of the no zero and avg together right? I'm kinda curious....

I like the graph, but it kinda bums me out that after so much whoring on the net and drawing multiple times and thinking the idea the design didn't break 2...

oh well... hooray for persistence

the weighted score is kind of outdated, we don't really use it at all anymore but it basically takes a users participation and tenure across various areas of the site and weights their scores higher.

Thats the spirit, theres always next time supakid

PS. Yes 0's are dished out to easily I feel. I think a lot of people judge something on face value from a personal perspective to quickly. I mean just because you do not personally like the design does not mean that it is undeserving of a 1 or a 2 at least for artistic merit.

I think also when using power score many people are to quick to judge and just go trigger happy.

hmmm I wonder how many I'd buy its will get the print?
I think most people will score 1st... but before they realise or remember to click the I'd buy its button, the page had change to the next design.. i'm sure a lot of I'd buy its vote lost because of this.

i really would like to see if there is a correlation between no sex and zeros..
celandinestern
   celandinestern on Feb 10 '11 at 4:44pm
I'd be willing to wager that there is. No sex often means you didn't take the time to fill out your profile. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a correlation between no avatar pic and zeroes too.

celandinestern
   celandinestern on Feb 11 '11 at 3:40am

ok, this is a collab Pedro and I did that just finished scoring. So, the no zero score and both the guys and the girls score are pretty much a match, with some small variation. Then check out the no sex score, a whole half point lower. That means that pretty much 90% of our zeroes came from the sexless crowd.

man those people really should get laid.

Nice this is a cool system just saw it today! But yes as everyone else was suprised, I was more annoyed and pissed that trolls just go around zeroing every freakin' damn design they see! Its ridiculous, glad to see that they have included a "no zero" score!

I'm so glad I saw this. Now I know why everyone seems to be getting way more zeroes than they seem to deserve. I don't think any design that has already gone through the approval team should deserve a zero at all -- at least a 1 for the effort and time!
