20 years ago one orphanage was sufficient to serve the whole of Zimbabwe's 12 million population. The custom was that if a child lost both their parents they went to live with the father's brother (or nearest relative on either side) Zimbabwean law allowed automatic adoption. Now there are over 1 million orphaned children living homeless in Zimbabwe and it's basically due to AIDS which has near enough decimated the populous between the ages of 18-45. And that's without factoring in Mugabe.
